Bryce Dallas Howard follows Jen Meyer and Tobey Maguire's example

04/21/2007 at 03:58 PM ET

When actress Bryce Dallas Howard, 26, found out that she and her husband Seth Gabel, 25, were expecting a baby (son Theo arrived 2 months ago), she turned to friend and Spiderman 3 co-star Tobey Maguire, 31, and his fiancée Jennifer Meyer, parents to Ruby Sweetheart, now 5 months.

One of the most important people during my pregnancy was Jennifer Meyer, Tobey’s fiancée. She’s just an incredibly mindful parent, I mean, they both are and I really wanted to follow their example in every way. So I had the same doctor as them, the same midwife as them, everything because I knew that they did their research.

I was calling them just a few days after the birth and Tobey would stay on the phone with me for like an hour talking through things with me, and when Jen couldn’t talk because she was nursing. I felt like that was really very much of a gift for me and my husband.

Bryce Dallas Howard sounds a lot like me…”I don’t want to do the research and work so I’ll just copy the people who did!” ;)

i wonder if she is going to have Jennifer nurse her baby for her too???

Goodness, she sounds like she has little confidence in herself and her husband as parent’s, she should learn to trust her natural maternal instincts. As a parent, we need to be able to do things on our own.

I love hearing this–every parent needs a support system of other parents…and lala I don’t think it’s a question of trusting your instincts–I think every new mom has those initial moments of fear and you’re first response is going to be to get advice from someone who’s just been through it. And i think it’s nice to know that they are like every other new set of parents–it’s scary and to have that support is key–I am sure in no time, they’ll be old pros–friends are just nice at a time like this =)) I love hearing this!

You know I heard that Jen Meyer wasn’t a very nice person. So it’s nice to see someone talking about her in a goodway.Kinda Smashes those rumors!

Lala see were you are comming from. The way she put it is like she asked them every single thing to expect.lol But I do believe that if you take time to understand things when your a first time mom. you will learn in no time. I am also not a fan of parenting books. I dont need to a book to tell me how to raise and feed my child. This I can do on my own because Im their Mother.!:)

I agree Megan. I wouldn’t have gotten through my first year of parenting without my best friend. Some people don’t have mothers who live nearby and welcome advice from those who have gone before us.

They sound like a cute foursome and Toby seems like he must be the best dad/husband around.

Bryce looks just like her father Ron Howard. Ron has been a good father and parental figure, definately someone to look up to!! Whatever Bryce decideds to do as a parent, she a good background and upbringing. That must be one beautiful baby, and congratulations to Ron Howard and wife as they are now Grandparent’s too!!!!

Geez people find a way to criticize EVERYTHING! So she asked advice from a friend?

To have a support system, especially when it’s your first child, is a true blessing. Especially when that support system is made up of fellow parents. I don’t know why so many American women feel like they have to be super mom and do anything and everything by themselves. We’re one of the very few cultures in this world that doesn’t have, or allow, a multitude of family and friends around us to help us with our children and it’s sad.

Mom Said It

"It helps that other moms had said that once they had their babies, they forgot they were ever pregnant. So once my focus became the baby and not the pregnancy, it was a very easy decision."
