A girl for Frederik and Mary!

It’s a girl for the Danish Crown Princely couple, who have just announced the birth officially. The baby girl was born at 4:02 pm after a six hour labor and weighed  7 lbs, 6 oz and measured 19.5 inches. Photos of the princess are not likely to be released. The first time Christian, the first child of the couple, was seen was when Mary went out of hospital. BT has an article on the birth – she’s the first Danish princess born in over 60 years!

At 18hs, the Queen and husband Prince Henrik departed from the palace to visit the new addition to the family.

The name of the Princess will not be announced until her christening, which is likely to take place in around three months.

This is very exciting news for Danes! My Mother was Danish. She passed away last summer. She was friends with the Queen as kids. The first girl born since 1946!! Hoorah!!

Congrats to Mary. But, the first girl in 46 years? The Queen’s sisters both have a daughter/daughters, right? Or is it because they are not princesses?

She’s the first Danish princess in over 60 years – since 1946 – sorry, should have been clearer!

Queen Margrethe’s's sisters both have daughters. Benedikte has Princesses Alexandra and Nathalie of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleberg and Anne-Marie has Princesses Alexia and Theodora of Greece. Benedikte and Anne-Marie also both have granddaughters. However, Frederik and Mary’s new daughter is the first female in Queen Margrethe’s line and the first official Danish Princess born since Anne-Marie was born in 1946.
