Jennifer Garner tells InStyle about her Daddy's girl
Actress Jennifer Garner, mom to Violet Anne, 16 months, and wife to Ben Affleck, spoke to InStyle magazine about motherhood for their May issue. Here are the baby-related highlights.
Daddy’s girl: You know how as a kid you picture yourself with a tall, handsomehusband, and you imagine him cuddling your baby? Ben islike that, like, on crack. Granted, I still obsess: ‘Do you know what you’re doing?’ But Violet prefers him to anyone. He’s a teddybear of a guy. Nothing makes me happier than to see the two of themtogether and her little hands on his face. He has a prevailing calm. Of course, he has the benefit of sleep.
Violet’s favorite word: Right now she’s especially enjoying enunciating her l’s — her current favorite word is ‘melllon.’
Fond of nursing: That surprised me – how much I loved [nursing] and how effortless it has been to pump anywhere in the world: in the car on the way to the Oscars, in countless airplane bathrooms. Men are terrified of it, but there’s always a sympathetic woman who’ll help you out.’
Wondering why mom and daughter are always together?: I don’t want to miss a second with Violet. Even this morning, leaving her in her high chair, going, ‘Mama! Up, up!’ I had to tear myself away. I’m certainly not the first person to feel this way about her child — and she doesn’t care if I work. I’m the one who misses her like a love-struck teenager.
More kids?: Put those pregnancy rumors to rest – not this year. ‘I need to work this year. If it weren’t for that, I’d be ready to go again! I like every part of my life. I feel filled up at the end of every day.’ Not to worry though – Jen told Marie Claire UK that there will be more Affleck babies on the way – just not for awhile!
Celeb mom friends: Reese Witherspoon is a close buddy – and now neighbor – since the two became friends last spring while visiting New Orleans to see the devastation left by Hurricane Katrina. Reese says, ‘She’s a doll. We’re both big dorks, and we’re okay with that. Jen’s one of my favorite people. She’s incredibly supportive, always calling me. We talk about mom stuff: How do you deal with guilt? How do you balance children and careers? Jen loves celebrating the traditions of home and family. She’s very homey.’
On keeping her interests alive too: Jen is enrolled in an online political science class this semester. ‘It was a New Year’s resolution to start doing something for my brain.‘
She’s aware of Hollywood pressure to lose weight soon after giving birth: You’re supposed to look a certain way when you’re a celebrity, but Iwant to take care of my baby, and those two things don’t mesh very well. When Julia Roberts had her babies, I watched her like a hawk and was amazed to see how quickly she looked great. I did not. I didn’t care enough to be getting up and working out, but I cared enough when I saw bad photos of myself.
