My Name is Earl's Ethan Suplee draws inspiration from kids

When Ethan Suplee hits a snag as to how to portray the simple-minded Randy Hickey on My Name is Earl, he turns to his daughters, Bella, 10, Lily, 8, and Francis Clementine, almost 22 months, for help.

I look at my kids if I have trouble with something or don’t immediately know how Randy would act or react to something. SoI look at my kids and try to gauge how they would deal with a situationlike that. More than anything, Randy is an innocent guy.

Ethan and his wife, Brandy Lewis, are expecting another little girl any day now. Also expecting in his circle is co-star Jaime Pressly, who will welcome a boy, Dezi James, next month with fiance Eric Cubiche. Ethan says production on the third season of the show has been pushed back to August to allow a longer maternity leave for Jaime.

We’re starting a couple of weeks late so Jaime can get some breastfeeding in with her kid. The baby’s due in May so she’llhave a few months alone with the kid and get some quality time.

Randy Hickey is the best actor in Hollywood in several years. I’m glad that he has the help of his daughters to bail him out when he hits a snag. It helps that he can look at his kids for inspiration. It also helps knowing and relieves some of the pressure from acting. Is there alot of pressure on actors these days? Wait and see. Just look at the career of Ethan Hawke. He is truly inspiring. (Sorry if this doesn’t make sense all of the time!) Ethan is an actor and perhaps he tries too hard. Because of the pressure that they put on actors to think and behave in all sorts of different personas. THis is deep.

You made a mistake here… you said “Randy and his wife, Brandy…” I’m pretty sure you meant “Ethan and his wife, Brandy…” as Randy is actually his character’s name.
