Figure skater Irina Slutskaya expecting first child

Olympic medal winning figure skater  Irina Slutskaya, 28, is leaving Champions on Ice in the middle of the tour – but with good reason. Irina and her husband of seven years, Sergei Micheev, are expecting their first baby this fall, and Irina wishes to spend the pregnancy in her native Russia.

YAY! I LOVE IRINA! I was rooting for her so badly to win the women’s figure skating gold medal last Olympics, but no luck =( She’s such a cute girl, an AMAZING skater, and has a good heart. I’m so excited for her!

I LOVE Irina but I have to say that I’m hideously disappointed – but only because I’ve got tickets to Champions on Ice on April 20 and assume she’ll be gone by then! She’s my favorite skater and I was so looking forward to seeing her.

I love Irina. Oh, well, my name is Irina too. (What can I say, a popular name in Russia.) I used to skate when I was growing up in Russia and I know what it takes to achieve her level of success. I don’t know her personally, but I can see she is a talented and focused athlete.
I am glad she is taking some time off for a baby! I am sure she’ll be back.

Irina is a terrific skater and has a big heart to come back from a severe illness to compete successfully at the highest levels of figure skating. I was sorry she didn’t win the Olympic gold medal but this is great news. I can only hope that her baby will be healthy and that she will be able to return to the ice to entertain her countless fans.
