Scrubs star John C. McGinley talks about how his son hooked him up with his new bride

04/08/2007 at 09:44 AM ET

Scrubs star John C. McGinley married yoga teacher Nichole Kessler on Saturday, People Magazine reports. The couple wed at their home in Malibu before about 30 family members and friends, and the bride walked down the aisle with John’s 9-year-old son Max. It is actually Max who is responsible for these two newlyweds meeting. Max, who has Down syndrome, approached Nichole on the beach while John was playing fetch with his dogs and it is all history from there. John said,

Max went over to this hot blonde behind me and I was just aghast, I was like, ‘Max, you get the dogs. I’ll talk to the hot blondes.’ And so we switched.

John and Nichole became engaged last August.

It’s wonderful to hear mention of special needs kids. I know plenty of celebs have them, but they often seem to be hidden.

That’s a really sweet story.

At first I thought Nichole was Ali Larter, currently starring in “Heroes.” Then I got a bit confused, thinking “perhaps it’s her twin sister.” But, uhh, that’s Ali’s character NICOLE on Heroes who has a twin. I’m not stupid, but I’m not the one who has blurred the line b/w fiction and reality, either.

Mom Said It

"I had to make a decision that I could sleep with every night. I did feel responsible for the young girls who I probably confused and let down. I apologize for that. But I wasn't trying to glamorize teen pregnancy."
