Steal That Look, Forty Weeks Style: Melanie Brown

Fw_logo_hi_res by Julia Beck, of Forty Weeks

Splashnews_lela220307b_05_cbb Melanie Brown was looking cool and breezy in a crisp white kimono top and a skinny bottom. Celebrity Baby Blog showed Melanie out with her daughter just days before giving birth to her new addition, a yet-to-be named baby girl on April 3, 2007.

Here is what to keep in mind when Stealing Melanie’s Look, Forty Weeks Style.
*A kimono top is best paired with a skinny bottom to best show-off your bump.
*Solids or patterns work equally well with this decidedly chic look.
*Seek out a mid-length or proportional body to balance out the exaggerated arm detail.
*The cross front of a Kimono is universally flattering, though be sure to avoid too deep of a plunge. Of course, a layering piece is always an option.

Steal That Look Forty Weeks Style – Come on and Kimono
A kimono top is an easy, breezy wardrobe fix for your ever-changing form! The roomy arms and generous body offer comfort and style. Wear it as a weekend look (as Melanie did) or dress it up for almost any occasion.

Duematernity_1942_42244327 A_wish Due Maternity has a stunning solid kimono in their spring collection. I am a fan of the simplicity of the design in this irresistible style. Offered in three colors (ivory, coral and mocha), this top opens up a world of options and comfort.  (pictured left, Due Kimono Maternity Top, $68)

A Wish’s maternity kimono top has longer proportions both in sleeve and length. Choose from berry or black.  The manufacturer suggests dry clean only – which means keeping an extra eye on your longer sleeves to avoid trips to the cleaner (I was a messy maternity eater!!!!). (pictured right, A Wish Knit Kimono Top, $85, available at Nordstrom.com)

Duo_0900631b8116dc1fm Cadeau Duo, at JC Penney, has a patterned kimono top offered in a black and the other in a brown base color. This would make a well-priced accent piece with a design that is modern yet wearable.  (pictured left, Duo Kimono Top, $25)

Designed by one of my absolute favorites – Emilia Fabricant – Cadeau means "the gift" in French and this top is certainly that. With careful detailing to flatter the bump, this Kimono is drop-dead gorgeous in black or brown. (pictured right, Cadeau Jersey Tie Top, $120, available at NeimanMarcus.com)
