Ice Cube is not a "cool" dad

Once seen as a controversial rapper, Ice Cube says all the "coolness" he exuded then has evaporated thanks to his four children with his wife Kim Jackson, sons O’Shea, Jr., 20, Darryl, 15, Sharif, 6, and daughter Kareema, 12. He tells Conan O’Brien on Late Night,

When you first have kids, you say stuff like you’re not gonna be your father because you’re cooler than that. The older you get, the more kids you have, you start sounding like your father, so they just suck the cool right out of you. They suck it right out of you year by year. Next year, hopefully I can keep my cool level up.

The rapper-turned-actor jokes that he’s on the verge of tears "all day long." Asked how he keeps them calm, Ice responds,

I just let them hang out with Keith Richards every now and then.

How does the media get away with calling this person someone who was “seen as” a “controversial” rapper? He was an out-and-out racist lunatic, and if he’s ever expressed regret for it publicly, I’ve never heard it.
