Jada Pinkett Smith wants her kids to act
While some celebrities want to turn their children away from acting, Jada Pinkett Smith encourages her kids, Willow, 6, Jaden, 8, and Trey, 14, to follow herself and their father, Will Smith, into the "family business."
I hope to God my kids decide the entertainment business is something they want to do, because that’s an area where Will and I could give great advice.
Jaden, of course, has already tried his hand at it, co-starring with Will in The Pursuit of Happyness, but Jada says she’s not responsible for his moving and powerful performance.
You wish you could take credit for your kids, but the truth is, Jaden was born that way.
The actress doesn’t believe living in the public eye is any harder than living out of it and feels her children already have the benefit of being born into the spotlight rather than being thrust into it.
Life is tough. If you try to protect your kids…well, that’s a fallacy. It’s not going to happen. You have to give your kids the tools they need to cope with life. My kids have grown up with [the media]. For them, it wouldn’t be as much of an adjustment as it was for Will and I. They were born into it, they don’t know any different. They’re ahead of the game, if you know what I mean.
But Jada says she won’t be disappointed at all if they decide to pursue a different path.
Doctor, nurse, trash man…it’s all the same to me.
