Chris Daughtry's cellular bedtime tuck-in

Life on the road means time away from his family for Chris Daughtry, but he keeps in touch with his wife, Deanna, and their children, Hannah, 8, and Griffin, 7, every day and tries to make time for a good night phone call when he can.

I talk to them every day, and I got to see my wife for the first time in three weeks last week. And I got to hang out with her and go skiing in Vail, Colo. We’re just crazy about each other. This whole thing has gotten us closer together. My kids miss me; I miss them. Sometimes I call and try to get in touch with them before they go to bed so I can tuck them in over the phone. It’s a determination to make it work.

Chris and Deanna have been married for six years.

My husband is gone on business for about six weeks and home about two weeks. Our children are 10,8 and 7. The kids email him and talk to him at least once a day. Hallmark e-cards are great! It’s not the ideal situation, but as a family when he comes home we really make it count with family activities and one on ones with the kids. You do what you have to do to make it work.

i didn’t think i could love Chris Daughtry any more but he just proved me wrong!! This guy seems so genuine and so darn sweet! Oh to be his wife! What a truly blessed family!

My husband is in the Coast Guard and while he is at home right now, most of my kids’ childhood, he has spent on ships. The hardest schedule we ever did was 2 months in port, 2 months underway. that was hard. Just as we’d get used to having him home, he’d get deployed, and just when we had gotten into a routine with him gone, he’d come home! He has done some 6-7 month deployments on an ice breaker but thank goodness that was B.C. (before children!). My girls were pretty young at that time, when he’d be gone. Before he’d leave, he’d record himself reading their favorite bedtime stories, prayers, etc. It was very expensive for him to call (from the ship it was $10 a minute) so we relied alot on email, although he could only say so much (they were screened for security reasons) and I had to keep mine under a certain word count. It was rough, no doubt, but you just do what you have to do. We’d look at pictures of him alot, watch family videos, etc. Lots of care packages, crossing off squares on a calendar, etc. We’re looking at him getting back on a ship so we’ll be doing it all over again!

My husband travels about 40 weeks a year. Our kids are 6,8,10. He calls them each morning before school and each night before bed–with other calls thrown in between. He helps me out with homework by having the kids read to him over the phone and sometimes we even need to e-mail him those hard to do math sheets if I can’t figure them out. He also always packs some book to take with him that he can read to the kids at night over the speaker phone. It is hard us the kids and me when he is gone but I am sure that it is even harder for him to be away from us.

What I love about him is how he refers to the children as his kids. I’m pretty sure they are not biologically his. He seems like such a great guy..

I just read an article online yesterday in which Chris said that he doesn’t want to be getting physical with any women in his music videos because he thinks doing so would be a disrespect to his marriage. I think that sums up everything we need to know about his character and priorities!

My Marine husband recorded a video before he left for Iraq the 1st time. He read them a book, said how much he misses them, even said a night time prayer, the kids watched it every night, I had to walk out of the room, it made me cry every time, but they LOVED seeing Daddy every night on the TV.

Being on the road and away from home and family for long periods of time is tough on your loved ones AND you.I think Chris Daughtry is a wonderful example of a loving husband and father.He says he talks to his family every day,and calls the kids at bedtime to say goodnight to them. These loving phone calls are doing wonders at staying in touch and telling the family how much loved and important they are to him. Chris is that kind of guy.Even tho the world is opening up for him, he is still making sure his family knows they are first in his heart.What a rock star and a fine human being!

Chris & Deanna, Hang in there and always put first things first. I pray God blesses your family as you seek Him first. Deanna I’ll be praying for you as your family goes through this transition. My heart goes out to you. I wouldn’t want to see all these girls hanging on my husband. I don’t like seeing them do it to yours. Chris you’re a good man, guard your heart and mind.
