PaxWatch: Behind Angelina Jolie's son's new name

While CBB Readers are divided over whether Angelina Jolie should have changed her new son’s name from his original name Pham Quang Sang, but many are in agreement that they like the name.  According to People, Pax Thien means means peaceful sky (Pax is peacein Latin and Thien is sky or heaven in Vietnamese).  And since Jolie is French forpretty, his full name means pretty peaceful sky.

We spoke to The Baby Name Bible: The Ultimate Guide By America’s Baby-Naming Experts co-author Linda Rosenkrantz about Pax’s name:

Pax is not only Latin for peace, but was the Roman goddess of peace.  A unisex name (like Shiloh), it’s more commonly heard in the Spanish version, Paz.  There are far more Paxtons in this country than Paxes.  There are many names with ‘peace’ in their meaning, including Irene, Salome, Shalom, Absalom, Axel, Callum, Godfrey. Geoffrey/Jeffrey, Frederick and Solomon, and others through symbols of peace– Oliver/Olivia/Oliver (the olive branch) and Paloma (the dove).

Did you select a name meaning peace for your child?

My identical twin girls were born on march 8th, and both of them have middle names meaning peace. One of them is actually Pax! My girls names are Elena Irene and Sophie Pax. I didn’t even know they mean’t peace, but named them after family!
I love the name Pax! Also, I don’t have any problem with Angelina changing his name. I have a younger sister who my family adopted at the age of 4, and we changed her name. She and I both picked out her new name. She picked out her first name Julia and I choose Claire as her middle name. I thought it was a great way to invovle both kids in the adoption process. Congrads to the Jolie-Pitt family.

I admire Angelina’s gift for naming Shiloh and her very unique chosen children with equally unique and not-so-common names. The names she has chosen seem to fit the children to a T. Too bad few of Hollywood’s parents are so gifted! I shiver to think of the schoolyard ribbing the Kal-Els and Bluebells, Apples, Shepherds and Crimefighters (just to name a few) will be experiencing in the not too distant future! God help them!
