PregWatch: Cate Blanchett plays with sons Dashiell and Roman

Cate2_cbb_2Cate Blanchett was photographed by Australia’s Who Magazine on March 9th playing outside with her children Dashiell, 5 and Roman, 3. Cate was sporting a bit of a bump which got the rumor mill turning. Cate has previously said she would like to have four children but has said she and her husband, Andrew Upton, are "still discussing it."

Australian CBB Reader Elizabeth wrote to us: "She’s wearing a shirt-dress type thing and isn’t looking as…svelte asshe normally does. There’s definately a round belly going on. I wonderwhy no-one else seems to have noticed when most mags normally jump onthose baby-bump rumours. She and hubby Andrew Upton are doing afull-time move back to Aus next year to take up jobs as Directors ofthe Sydney Theatre Company – it would great timing to have a bub."

Dashiell’s wearing a David Bowie t-shirt, and all are wearing sunhats.

LikeabikeCate is carrying a bicycle that has no pedals which is great for teaching children as young as two years old to ride a bike without resorting to training wheels.  When first learning to ride, they use it like a hobbyhorse, and as they become more comfortable, they start to walk, then run with it, and eventually, they learn to balance. You can purchase one just like it from LikeABike (starting at $245).

Have you used a pedal-less bike to teach your child how to ride?
Do you think Cate is pregnant?

Please. Her body-skimming Oscar dress left no room for a baby bump. She’s probably just enjoying being able to eat again after having to starve to fit into that dress.

Cate may be pregnant, who knows, time will tell. Just wanted to say that Radio Flyer makes a really nice version of that ‘bike’ too, they call it the Beginner’s Balancing Bike, and it’s made of wood. Theirs is around $100 though, if do a google search on the product name you can find various places that sell it. this is the link to the radio flyer website with the product info and a pic http://www.radioflyer.com/specialty/specialty_330.html in case anyone is interested. We have it and we love it, or I should say Cordelia loves it, and she is really learning how to balance and will be ready for a two wheeler in no time.

Today while walking to work, I saw a young girl on one of those bikes! The weird thing is, I’d never seen one before. I think they’re a great idea.

My daughter (2 1/2) has exactly the same bike in blue. She absolutely loves it. The bike Cate is carrying is not the super expensive LikeABike, but a more affordable version called Firstbike. I purchased it via http://www.firstbike.com for approximately 80€, that’s around 100 USD.

In Germany those pedal-less bikes are very common. Many parents use it for their children before they get a real bike, training to balance and learning to assess speed.
Here it is not called pedal-less but running bike.

I’ve seen them out here in the Bay Area. A little boy was having a b-day party in Sausalito at a park and I think it was one of his gifts.

I’m not sure if it’s the same brand or not, but I’ve seen these at SuperTarget.

I have never seen or heard of those bikes before. But they make total sense. Definitely will get the kids pedaling a 2 wheeler a lot earlier. Great idea ;-)
