Virginia Madsen keeps her son close

03/01/2007 at 03:00 PM ET

When The Number 23 star Virginia Madsen‘s son Jack stays with his father, Antonio Sabato, Jr., he doesn’t have to travel very far. That’s because Virginia’s and Antonio’s homes are walking distance from each other.

Antonio and I built new houses a block from each other, so if [Jack] is not with me, he’s literally down the block.

Virginia and Antonio dated throughout the mid-90s and Jack was born in 1994.

They have always been really great parents. I wish a lot more couples in the public eye and not would be that mature about the whole situation. My job would be a lot easier not having to be a mediator between parents who are divorced or no longer together. It hurts the kids to much. At least I am here for them ( the kids). That’s all that’s important.

I had no doubt that Virginia Madsen was that type of person.

Though she’s had a lot of growing up to do regarding certain aspects of her life, as well as her career; she has more than made up for it by showing herself to be a responsible parent.

Jack seems to be turning out well, and with the help Antonio Sabato in what appears to be a stress-free enviornment, he will a fine young man someday.

Mom Said It

"I had to make a decision that I could sleep with every night. I did feel responsible for the young girls who I probably confused and let down. I apologize for that. But I wasn't trying to glamorize teen pregnancy."
