Introducing Esmé Louise Sutter, Katey Sagal's new baby joy

Married With Children/Futurama star Katey Sagal, 52, and producer husband, Kurt Sutter, opened up their home to OK! Magazine to share the newest addition to their family: a daughter Esmé Louise, born January 10, 2007. Katey has two children from a previous relationship, Sarah, 12, and Jackson,10, while her husband has never had any of his own. Katey had medicalissues after the birth of her two children, so they had a surrogatecarry their child.

Click Continue Reading to see what Katey had to say about theirexperiences with the surrogacy and how it feels to be an older mom.

How has your life been since Esmé came home?
It’s busy, but it’s really lovely and calm so far. Everybody is very excited and my older kids are very happy she’s here. She fits right in. She’s healthy and perfect. I think the biggest change has been realizing I now have three children.

How did you decide to have a child through a surrogate mother?
I’d had some medical issues after the birth of my other two children, so I was unable to carry a child, so we were always looking at alternative approaches. We headed down the adoption road at the same time were were investigating the surrogacy road and left it up to whatever happened first, because we weren’t attached to either way. Our surrogacy situation just fell into place really easily.

Were both you and Kurt at the hospital for the birth?
Oh, yeah. We’ve been to every doctor’s appointment from the beginning. Our surrogate, her husband, myself, and Kurt were all in the room. Our surrogate had several children already of her own, and it was an easy birth for her. I held Esmé, and Kurt cut the cord. It was a beautiful experience.

How do you feel about being an older mom?
My thing about having another child was, time’s-a-wasting! I thought about being an older parent and what that means for another child, but I was somewhat of an older parent when I had Sarah and Jackson [in my] late 30s. I have an enormous family with many cousins, and Esmé has an older brother and sister. So, I felt it was okay to do this.

How does Kurt like fatherhood so far?
He’s taken to it like a champ. Kurt was right there when Esmé was born. He picked her right up, felt comfortable about it. He’s a very loving man.

What a great interview, and how nice of her to share their private story :-)

As a getting-older mother who absolutely wants more children, I am very open to various options in terms of how they arrive.

Katey has a wonderful glow about her.

thats great for her! I hope if I keep having miscarriages maybe we would be able to do surrogacy someday soon. Its just sooo expensive for the average person. Katey is so lucky to have the money to do it! Congrats!!!!

As a mommy-of-one who wants one more baby and is having trouble, I would absolutely use a surrogate (if we could afford to do so). I would be thrilled if someone wanted to carry a baby for me! I would also be willing to BE a surrogate for someone else, no hesitation.

Good for Katey for taking the plunge, as well as being so open with her story.

I’m happy for Katey and her family. Esmé is a beautiful little baby, and I’m sure they love her to pieces. It seems hard not to just by looking at her. Such a lovely photo of Katey and her new baby. Katey looks so happy and I don’t blame her. :)

She looks awesome for 50!

I’ve always been fond of Katey as an actress and a person, I’m so happy for her!

Esmé is a gorgeous name, it means esteemed or loved in old French.

I’m sure that Katey also used a donor egg as she is 50 years old. My IVF Clinic is a very well-known center and has higher than average rates for IVF in older women. Regardless, my doctor told me that they only rarely have someone as old as 44 year old actually get pregnant with their own eggs. If she got pregnant at 49 or 50 years old with her own eggs that would quite unusual. I’m 40 years old and I’ve been told that there’s a good chance that at my age I’ll need to use donor eggs for a successful IVF cycle.

What wonderful news.. I am so happy for Katy and her family. What a beautiful baby girl!
I had my last child at 42 and conceived naturally, and now at 49, I would consider an donor egg or surrogacy..(if affordable).

She looks awesome for her age and it’s really nice to see her so happy with her kids after that awful stillborn tragedy she had years ago. My sister had a similar thing happen and she never recovered.

Good for her, she seems so happy. I remember durring “married with children” she lost a baby.
she does look really good for her age.

I am planing on being a surrogate in the next few years, once I am done with college. I had a great full term pregnancy with my own twins.

I would love to be able to help out somebody having issues with fertility, give them the chance an enjoying a child of their own. I think it would be the best gift a person could be given.
