Australian swimmer Susie Maroney suffers ectopic pregnancy

Australian swimmer Susie Maroney rung in the New Year ecstatic; she was happily married with a baby on the way. However, just weeks later Susie suffered bleeding and severe pain, with the result being a potentially life-threatening ectopic pregnancy;

At first the ultrasound didn’t reveal anything…so all the while I kept hoping my baby was going to be all right. It was a nightmare. Like it wasn’t real.

Our thoughts go out to Susie and her husband, Robert Daniels during this difficult time.

my heart goes out to her! I had an ectopic pregnancy in August 2005 and it was one of the hardest things I have ever been through. I lost my left tube. It ruptured due to the pregnancy. I had absolutely no pain or bleeding before it ruptured either. It was such a horrible experience.

I just read this mag article and was shocked that her miscarriage is actually going to last several weeks because of her choice of treatment for the ectopic pregnancy. I can’t imagine how hard that must be – to carry a non-viable pregnancy for that long. It must be devastating. I’m glad she’s come forward with this story though. So few women talk about it but one in every three pregnancies end in miscarriage. Women just seem to suffer through this alone. That’s a shame when they could be supported by a network of people who’ve experienced the same thing.

i guess she is going with the Methotrexate treatment. it does usually take at least a couple of weeks. sometimes longer, for the HCG numbers to go down to zero. I didn’t have the choice since mine had ruptured. I would MUCH rather have done methotrexate instead, but like i said I had no symptoms of an ectopic at all and mine ruptured so early (at 6 and a half weeks). Most ectopics don’t rupture that early.

I hope she is doing ok and I wish her nothing but the best.

Susie was on Australian panel show, “The Catch Up” today, talking about her ectopic pregnancy.
She confirmed that she did take methotrexate. She is obviously still very raw, as the interview ended abruptly when she began crying. She did mention that her sister had also suffered a twin ectopic pregnancy, with one twin growing in the uterus and one in the fallopian tubes. Remarkably, she went on to deliver a healthy baby girl!
