Celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain to be a dad
Chef Anthony Bourdain, 50, author/novelist, host of the Travel Channel’s No Reservations and former executive chef at NYC’s Les Halles, is expecting his first child, a girl, in April with his Italian girlfriend.
Tony’s very excited to be a dad. He said,
I’m absolutely thrilled and taking it very seriously. I’m thrilled, delighted, excited and just dancing on the ceiling.
As the kind of dad he thinks he’ll be, he said,
Maybe I’m being a bit naive, but I always loved the idea of raising a little wild child. You know, somebody who grew up playing with Vietnamese kids and Indonesian kids. I love the idea of a kid who grows up speaking both Italian and English and maybe a little Bahasa. You know, a street smart, tough little ragamuffin with sunburned hair who suddenly shows up in the American school system with kung fu skills and multiple languages.
My husband (who writes the excellent food blog The Food Section) told me about Anthony’s recent diatribe against Food Network chefs. It’s typical Bourdain. Do not read if you love Semi-Homemade with Sandra Lee! I am a big fan of his, having read most of his books including Bone in the Throat, Gone Bamboo, Bobby Gold, Kitchen Confidential and Typhoid Mary. Also, my dad has done woodwork for his mom and I’ve gotten signed copies of his books.
