Diane Keaton on her kids

02/15/2007 at 11:30 AM ET

by CBB correspondent Joyce:

Diane Keaton turned heads when she adopted not one, but two children in her 50s. Becoming a parent later in life never fazed the devoted single mom though, who says she is more in tune with the younger generation now because of her daughter, Dexter, 11, and son, Duke, 6.

I live with two very young people, so I understand what it’s like living with a six-year-old and an 11-year-old. My 11-year-old – my daughter, bless her – is already kind of culturally aware of the singing groups and the teen movies.

While Dexter is gravitating towards teen fare, neither she or her brother could care less about their mother’s numerous celluloid moments.

They have no interest in what I do, which I think is very healthy. We live a relatively normal – well, sort of normal – life.

The family recently celebrated Diane’s 61st  in relatively normal, un-Hollywood fashion as well. Regretting the big, blow-out and "awkward" 60th shindig she had last year, Diane spent her big day with Dexter and Duke.

This year it was really nice because I just had dinner with my kids. We didn’t make too much of it.

Diane, who has never married, adopted Dexter in 1996 and Duke in 2001.

I really enjoyed this blog posting.

Diane Keaton is an american icon, and she treats her life with her children NORMAL, and many hollywood celebrities take full advantage of what they have and what they can get and I dont believe just by reading this that Diane is like that.

BRAVO to this blog post!!!

Mom Said It

"I had to make a decision that I could sleep with every night. I did feel responsible for the young girls who I probably confused and let down. I apologize for that. But I wasn't trying to glamorize teen pregnancy."
