Nicolas Cage explains why his son is named Kal-El

Capt_nyet39602011712_bahamas_celebrities_2When Nicolas Cage and his wife Alice Kim found out they were expecting in early 2005, choosing a name for their baby boy to be was an issue for them. When he was born on October 3rd, many were left scratching their heads as Kal-El Coppola Cage was announced as the little one’s name. Nicolas explains how he and Alice came up with the name for their son, now 16 months,

My wife wanted a unique name and originally I thought of the name Kyleand then she said, ‘No, something more unusual but beautiful.’ ThenI remembered the old Superman comics and Kal-El was his original nameon Krypton. So I wanted a name that stood for something good, wasunique and American and that’s all three. I just thought it was abeautiful name and it had kind of a magical ring to it.

Yeah, I like the name, and there are unusual names that are gorgeous! The only unusual name I really don’t like, or simply hate, is Pilot Inspektor, really. Kal-El is such a cutie (referring to the baby now, lol)

I don’t care for the name. But the meaning behind it makes a lot of sense and is really sweet.

Didn’t he already say that when Kal-El was born?
