Mary J. Blige's stepdaughter says her parents relationship serves as a model
Mary J. Blige’s stepdaughter Briana "Bri" Latrise, 20, recently spoke with Hoodstar about her parents’ relationship and Mary as a stepmother. Mary, a multiplatinum, multiple Grammy Award winning singer and the reputed "Queen of Hip Hop Soul," married Bri’s father music producer Kendu Issacs in 2003. Mary has said that much of her recent happiness and claim of "no more drama" is due to the love that she and Kendu share. About her father’s marriage to Mary, Bri says,
My folks’ relationship is the kind of relationship I hope for one day. Very stable. Real. I mean I’m sure they have bad days but who doesn’t? I mean, honestly Mary and my pops are one of the happiest couples I know besides my grand parents. And I hope that the Lord will one day bless me with a beautiful relationship like that as well.
Bri, currently a student and aspiring writer, said that she and her father’s relationship is "great." "We kick it. He’s just a great man in my eyes. My dad, whether he knows it or not helps me with everything."
As for her relationship with Mary, Bri says it is not only a parent-child relationship, but also that of a fan and her idol. "I was a fan of Mary’s long before I even knew her. I can hear the happiness in her voice and in the music she makes. I can see it in her."
As for the future, Bri says she know that there is no limit to what she can do, especially with her parents and their ongoing support.
My parents always told me anything is possible through God so I’m just going to pray on it and take baby steps because I have so many options right now. So many things I’m capable of doin but you know time is limited.
Kendu also has two other children.
