Australian TV hosts Jessica Rowe and Peter Overton welcome daughter

01/18/2007 at 06:53 PM ET

Australian TV host of the Today Show, Jessica Rowe, 36, and husband, Peter Overton, reporter on 60 Minutes, welcomed a baby girl today (last night for Australia), the 18th. Eddie McGuire told Southern Cross radio "the great news is that they had a baby girl last night…and we wish them great congratulations in that regard." The baby girl who weighed in at 3.5kg, has been named Allegra Penelope Overton, and is the result of their fourth IVF attempt. Penelope is after Jessica’s mother. Jessica’s replacement, also a celebrity mom, Sarah Murdoch, said this morning on the show that Jessica "had a natural birth, only a few hours of labor and mom and baby are doing very well."

this is a very special baby for jessica(and peter). basically, jessica was a newsreader on 1 network, but was poached by another network. only prob was viewers watching her on the new network didn’t like her and she got abused heaps by the public and in the press-all while trying to succeed in IVF (which made her life miserable). eddie mcguire is the head of the network she’s at now and sarah murdoch is married to lachlan murdoch(rupert murdoch’s son). people seem to like sarah heaps tho so don’t know if jess will get her job back!

sorry this is so long-just trying to help….

Congrats to Jess and Peter. Jess always manages to smile through adversity. I am sure that her main focus now is being a great mum.

I know that the majority of readers are American so some more background info. This couple are really special to Australia and are very popular. Its so great that they have been able to have a baby and I am sure that many Australians are thinking if them at the moment.
Congratualtions to them both!

He seems nice, she’s bloody annoying! But congrats on the baby, the name seems a bit wanky and is what I’d expect from her!
