Review: Stokke Xplory Stroller

The Stokke Xplory resembles a Segway or a space probe but it’s actually a "complete baby carriage solution."  But, chances are, unless you live in a major metropolitan area, you probably have only seen this stroller on the Celebrity Baby Blog. 

The key feature of the Xplory is that it brings baby to your level,literally.  The Xplory’s seat extends vertically so your baby is closerto your face, allowing you to interact in a way that other low riding and conventional strollers can’t.  This gives baby a great view of the world, not just a dog’s eye view.  Additionally, research shows that keeping strong visual contact and interaction strengthens your child’s feeling of security andcomfort.

i live in Sydney(Australia)and I have seen this 1 around. while I don’t have kids, it’s an interesting concept, and the security and eye level contact benefits are nice, but is it more difficult to manoeuver in busy places??? Like having ur kid sitting there kicking some old guy in the backside or grabbing more dangerous things off supermarket shelves coz they’re higher up?can u keep it lower if u want?

There is no way I would like that pram. It’s a Norwegian design and I’ve seen it many times, and even tried it. In tests it comes out worst, breaking down after only a few thousand meters. It looks weird too, and is tiny and uncomfortable to push.

But if I was a celebrity with 15 other prams… sure

We live in a major suburban metro area, but honestly it’s just too much money to spend on a stroller that we’ll only be able to use a few months out of the year, due to the sub-zero temps from the harsh winters.

We needed something lightweight that we can easily lift in & out of the car, since most people have to drive just about everywhere, due to poor public transport.

It seems nice enough, but a lot of other strollers come with similar/same add-ons (netting, diaper bag, sunshade, etc.) for a lot less $$. I prefer more storage, because I use the under stroller baskets to cart groceries during the nice weather months!

How easy is it to fold & get on the bus or subway when you need to go further distances??

It looks like the kid’s seat is going to snap off with one good bump… And NO way would I ever consider paying that much for a stroller. I don’t care if the thing pushed itself, there’s no excuse to pay that much for a stroller.

Wait, I take that back…unless it’s a Silver Cross, but that’s because of the company behind it and the beauty and craftsmanship. Silver Cross is timeless and classic. I still think they’re extremely expensive too, but I’d buy one of those over one of these Stokke Xplory things any day.

While I appreciate the review by Danielle, it’s not a stroller for me.

Actually, I live in Asheville NC and I see this quite a bit in our downtown area-Asheville is pretty hip and there are lots of young families here. However, I’m guessing they’re tourists from Atlanta because no one in Asheville has that kind of money!

I am adopting special needs child in near future and this stroller looks the best one for us right now.At first I thought it was the ugliest thing I had ever seen..but it really does grow on you. I like the higher option and the very padded seat and bassinette…I will sell the bugaboo to buy this..I think bugaboo is frustratingly over rated, the seat far too small and the carrycot on it is far too low down..plus lacking BIG TIME in padding around the sides. If you go down a slight inclined street the baby always seems to slide to the end as the carrycot seems to be slightly downward at the head end. This is weird! I am sure people only buy it to join the bugaboo gang.Me, i prefer to think of the benefits for the child, and the comfort over looks.
