Rumor: Britney to have boys baptized

Update: Readers tell us that if the boys are being baptized anytime soon, it won’t be in the Baptist church! They could have a dedication ceremony, but traditionally infants and toddlers are not baptized until they are old enough to make a decision on their own.

Originally posted 10 am: Life & Style is reporting that Britney Spears is planning to have her two sons, 15-month-old Sean Preston and 3-month-old Jayden James, baptized. "At her parent’s urging, Brit’s agreed to get the babies baptized," an insider says.

The insider adds that she is planning to wait until Jayden is older before having a christening ceremony.

The popstar, who is originally from Louisiana, was raised Baptist and dabbled in Kabbalah for a short while after igniting a friendship with pop icon Madonna, a devout Kabbalist.  After giving birth to Sean Preston, Britney said she was no longer interested in Kabbalah and that her son was her new religion. She later had him blessed at an Indian Temple in January 2006, but if the rumor is to be believed, it seems that Britney may be returning to her Baptist roots.

Baptists don’t baptize babies.

Seems to me like she’s kind of lost and doesn’t know what she wants.

If Britney wants to give her children a spiritual foundation she could start by LIVING the life that she would want her children to emulate.

Just to give some light on this. Baptists do not believe in baptizing babies. To Baptists, baptism is done as a sign to the world that you accepted Christ as your Lord and Savior, and that your sins have been washed away. Baptists do believe in having dedication ceremonies, which just shows the church, family, friends, etc… that you plan to raise your child in a christian home.

Catholics believe in infant baptism.

ummm… baptists don’t believe in infant baptism? lol.

Actually, Baptists do not generally baptize infants. They practice believer’s baptisim, by which someone chooses to be baptized after they have asked Jesus to be Lord of their life. This is a physical representation of an inward decision.

Britney may have been raised a Baptist but she’s not going back to her Baptist roots. I am Baptist and we dont believe in baby baptizing. We believe you are Baptized when you are old enough to make the decision of believing in Jesus. Sounds like she is gonna go either Methodist, Luthern, or Catholic.

From my experience Baptist churches do not baptize babies. They do what is called a baby dedication where the parents commit to raising the child in the church, and the church commits to helping the parents. Baptism is something that is reserved once someone has become a Christian, and is a choice they make on their own, once they are much older.

Britney may have been raised a Baptist but she is not going back to her roots. I am a Baptist and we dont beleive in baby baptizing. We believe in getting baptized once you are old enough to make you own decision. I think she might be leaning toward Methodist, Lutheran, or Catholic. Hope that helps.

um, how is that returning to Baptist roots? Baptists don’t baptise infants and toddlers.

I’m Baptist and was born and raised Baptist. I was baptisied at about a year old. I was given a Pink Bible with it written in it as a memento. And my church was a very very strict Baptist church. So obviously some churches do believing in it.

I was raised Southern baptist and have heard of some , very few Baptist churches baptising young children/infants.

Brianna do you think you were dedicated as a baby? I was also dedicated as Baby in the Baptist faith. And I have my pink Bible from it. The boys were given a blue Bible. I also Dedicated my two kid when they were small. It was just a dedication saying I would raise my children in faith and bring them to church.

Also we can’t rule out Presbyterian (I wouldn’t be a dutiful Presbyterian pastor’s wife without mentioning our denomination!) who baptize infants, or even Episcopal who christen their infants.
