Sharon Stone talks about motherhood

Sharon_stoneActress Sharon Stone, 48, answered questions from readers of People magazine. These included also questions about being a mother. Sharon has sons Roan, 6, Laird, 19 months, and Quinn, 6 months. Here are some excerpts from the interview:

Are you planning on having more kids? I think we’re good. Three is a wonderful number. I can’t say for sure, because you never know. Life is life.

What is the greatest challenge you’ve encountered as a working mother? Coming back from being sick (after a 2001 brain aneurysm) and then quickly having two more children. I had just gone through a divorce (in 2003 from newspaper editor Bronstein), and that’s always rough. It’s like you’re the phoenix, trying to get up out of those ashes. (I turned a corner) just seeing my children love each other so much, laughing, hugging and kissing each other.

It must be weird for her younger sons to have a different last name from the older one and no father. I’m not making a value judgement at all about Sharon, I have always just wondered what you would tell kids in this situation. Will the younger ones be jealous that the older brother has a daddy and they don’t? Is Phil Bronfman taking all three boys for visits when he takes his son? Just wondering…

I’m not sure if Roan even sees Phil Bronstein. I know they separated right around the time she adopted him so maybe he decided not to be in the child’s life.

I think a lot of people making the whole same last name into a bigger deal than it is. My daughter has my last name and not her father’s. We split when she was 2 and has never questioned why her name isn’t the same as his.

I thought sharon’s ex got their son for like 6 months and sharon has him the other 6 months. I read this somewhere. Anyone else know for sure?

I doubt her ex takes the other boys.. they arent his.

Leni – I figured he probably didn’t take the other kids, but I know that Madonna’s ex, Carlos Leon, takes both Lourdes and Rocco when he visits with his daughter. I guess the siblings like to be together and Carlos obviously doesn’t seem to mind. Maybe he’s like an uncle to Rocco?

Lorus – many kids have different last names than their siblings, but the oldest kid, Roan, is kind of like the odd man out – and only one with a different name. Kids can be sensitive about this kind of stuff.

I thought the custody arrangement was for 12 months at a time? and Phil lives in San Francisco. I don’t see how that would work. Is Roan expected to alternate schools?! that’s a little harsh on a kid.

I found this comment strange: “Coming back from being sick then quickly having two more children” – odd.

I don’t see the name thing being a big issue at all. It’s 2006 and MANY families are blended with kids from previous relationships and different last names. This is the culture that we live in and has been for some time. Kids will tease about anything and everything so the name thing could be an issue in one case and such a non issue in another.
