Gymnast Lilia Podkopayeva welcomes daughter

11/19/2006 at 04:32 AM ET

1996 Olympics competitor Lilia Podkopayeva and husband, Timofei Nagorny welcomed a daughter, Karolina on November 10th. Lilia had a c-section, delivering the baby girl who was 21 inches and 8lbs 2oz. She added that "she did not expect to see a chubby baby [but] I guess I fed her well."

The couple have a 1-year-old son, Vadim who they adopted in July. Lilia and Timofei were told in 2003 that they would not be able to have a child. Karolina is named after Lilia’s close friend Karolina Kuyek, a Ukranian singer who uses the stage name Ani Lorak; she will also be Karolina’s godmother.

I have a friend named Karolina, we call her Kay. I wonder if they will do the same.

Congrats to them!

Aww, I loved Lilia. She was my favorite that year. Congrats to her and her family.

I’m so happy for Lilia and her husband! I’ve followed her career since the 96 Olympics when she was just a teenager. It’s hard to imagine she’s married now, with 2 kids. Wow.

Mom Said It

"We weren't trying to have kids. We left it up to fate. I knew there was a possibility, but I was really excited. Even if you are trying, just to see a positive result is shocking!"
