Princess Aiko marks passage into childhood

Japanese princess Aiko, 5, marked her passage from infancy into childhood with an ancient ceremony. Her parents, Crown Prince Naruhito, 46, and Crown Princess Masako, 42, were also present.

i mean this in the most non-inflammatory, non-insulting way… In the first picture, Princess Aiko recalls Violet Beauregard turning into a blueberry at Willy Wonka’s factory. I completely understand and respect that it’s a traditional outfit, but I just had to say it (in jest). It’s the hairstyle, too.

What a beautiful looking child and what proud and loving parents. Given what must be the constructions of Japanese royal life, they look like a very happy family.
