How do you pronouce Hermes? Is it like the scarf and clothing line “er-may?” Or is it “er-mays?” Just wondering.

Sarah, CBB News Editor on

I *think* it’s ‘Air-mezz,’ like the scarf/bag/clothing. I’m not 100% sure though – he’s named for her husband’s German background, so maybe one of our German readers will know more definitively?

Christina on

I always thought it was “air-mezz”, too. He’s cute, but that name is a bit too eccentric for my taste.

Kresta on

Awww, look at him all snuggled up into her shoulder. Even though he’s a big baby, her hand looks so big compared to him. He is just gorgeous.

Christine on

Oh, it’s SO wrong for her to look like that 2 weeks post partum.

so…wrong…
she should still be in maternity pants!!!
LOL!

momof2girlies on

I agree Christine!
After 2 years…I still don’t look like that! I wish I had her genes (and I wish I could fit into her Jeans :) Oh well, we got the same outcome…a beautiful baby!
Congrats to her and her husband on a handsome little boy!

I saw the pics on x17 and thought they were adorable! I cannot believe this woman is just two weeks postpartum. Crazy!

Also, just a note, you guys have something off with your coding, there are “‘);”‘s in various places on the site.

Zoey on

Oh, and just because the designer pronounces his name like that doesn’t /necessarily/ mean she pronounces it like that.. I’d be curious to hear how she says it.

She looks amazing two weeks out!

Hermés (with an acute accent) is no German name. Hermes (which is not really popular in Germany either – I’ve never heard it) is pronounced [hair-mezz].
BTW: Gustaf is always spelled Gustav in Germany. Is her husband really German? I think Gustaf is a common spelling in Scandinavia…

Sarah CBB News Editor on

All the Google results have him as “a German born venture capitalist.” Not sure if he was raised elsewhere, etc.

Again, I’m really not sure of the pronounciation of the name, it was just a guess given the accent they put on the name – I’m very open to correction!

Hermes is a Greek name. He was an Olympian god and the messenger from the gods to humans. He was also the god of everything that had to do with literature, including translation (hence the word “hermeneutics”). I’m not sure how it’s pronounced in English, “her-mes” I assume, but in Greek it’s pronounced “er-mee” (with no S at the end, for grammatical reasons).

I have to admit I’m a bit “shocked” they called him Hermés (I don’t get why they chose to spell it with an accent) because, being half Greek myself and going to Greece very regularly, I can tell Greek people, although they’re extremely proud of their ancient history, don’t call their boys Hermes anymore.

Hermes was not named after the designer. I can’t figure out how to make accents with this keyboard, but the designer has a backwards accent going the other way on the second e in his name. The designer would be pronounced “air-mezz” while Baby Boy Giersch’s name would be pronounced “air-maze” or “air-may”. Kelly’s husband is a native of Hamburg, Germany. They have homes in LA, Monaco, Hamburg — all over the place!

okay now this is the woman everyone should have been making comments like “she’s not really pregnant” not katie holmes. two weeks….my goodness!!!!! she doesn’t even look like she gave birth! :)
not sure if that’s good or bad *scratches head*

Aleah on

@ Bethany:
The designer is actually pronounced “air-mess” ;)

Ali on

I went to high school with a hispanic guy named Hermes — everyone just called him her-meez.

DangerousMuse on

What a weird name!I thought Hermes was tacky, and now I read Gustaf. Ick!

Jen on

Doesn’t Kelly Rutherford look just like Juliet on ‘Lost’?!?! I don’t know the name of that actress but she looks just like her!
