Christmas comes early for Madonna's new son

10/20/2006 at 10:45 PM ET

Pop icon Madonna reportedly took her new son David on a shopping spree, spending close to $19,000 on various toys, including an electric car, a rocking horse, and designer clothes.

Madonna and hubby Guy Ritchie recently adopted the boy from an orphanage in Malawi.

Madonna had great fun choosing baby David’s toys and accessories, getting him all the latest, coolest gear. A source told Britain’s Daily Mail newspaper. "As well as a designer wardrobe, Madonna and Guy have laid his bed with cotton and cashmere sheets and a music system will pipe out classical music. Madonna’s only stipulation was that there was no television in his room. As with her other two children, she doesn’t want David growing up watching mundane rubbish."

In an effort to remind David of his native country, the family decorated his room with animal murals, featuring lions and tigers.

$19,000? Ok that is excessive.

Darcy on

wow, major money.

Sabina on

Madonna doesn’t want him watching mundane rubbish but she’s happy to spend $19,000 on mundane rubbish for him to play with? It’s a joke to me that she can think she’s doing right by her kids by depriving them of television but dressing them in thousand dollar clothes that they’re going to grow out of in a matter of months, or even weeks in David’s case. How is that teaching them the value of money, or how to take care of their posessions, or any other valuable life lesson that she thinks TV would sap from them?

Scarlett on

With that 19,000 she could of helped the kids of his country. 19,000 dollars spent on materialistic things like that is just ridiculous. What’s the problem with children watching educational programs that teach them things? That’s also pretty ridiculous.

Kresta on

Good grief, talk about spoiling a child. He’s most likely overwhelmed by all the toys and attention. Madonna needs to slow down and let the little guy settle in first.

Uh, I lived in Malawi for a year, and there are no lions or tigers there!?!

if this is indeed true…I think that it is rather disgusting. The poor kid doesn’t even have a clue what any of that stuff is. Why not start out gradually rather than turning him into a materialistic individual????! Just a thought.

$19,000 in toys and designer clothes for a 1 year old???? Now, I have heard EVERYTHING.

You can’t seriously think that Madonna would allow her chlidren a tv in their bedroom!? I can assure you Lola and Rocco never even watched tv, let alone have one in their room.

Not to be rude, but that would be
the same reason some people
don’t let their kids listen to
*Madonna’s* music. Seems a little
hypocritical to me.

**snort**

There are no tigers in Africa.

Shmoo on

What the child needs is secure emotional attachment. Cashmere won’t help with that. On another note, tigers aren’t native to Africa, are they?

to me that’s simply ridiculous. A child needs love, not thousands of dollars in toys. Oh well if u have it I guess it’s not a big deal.

… But Tigers are from Asia?!?

Interesting.

Lucky boy!

tink1217 on

how about showering him with love and affection instead of all thos toys??? I mean, I know she has the money, but all kids want is love and a cardboard box most of the tim!

sean carter on

Madonna sure knows how to spend her moolah but a child needs love and affection more than anything else.nice blog.
