Long day leads to new son for Patrick Marleau

10/18/2006 at 05:00 PM ET

Following a long day at the hospital on Monday, Oct. 16, San Jose Sharks captain Patrick Marleau became a new father.  Son Landon Patrick was born via cesarean section shortly before 7 p.m.  He weighed 6 pounds, 15 ounces.

Patrick said that his wife, Christina, was induced at 7:30 a.m. but it failed to work so the doctors opted for a c-section that evening.

The 27-year-old noted that his wife picked out little Landon’s name. "It was pretty much what she wanted and what I agreed with,” he said.

Congrats to Daddy Patty and Christina! They are going to be great parents and little Landon will be a stud, just like his dad. They won for him last night, too. :)

i have never been a Sharks fan, but that is exciting. I love the name too!

I actually saw him play on Thursday Night at the Tank and I thought he was playing really crappy like he was tired. Ha Ha, no wonder Patty wasn’t his usual self. Now I know why, I didn’t have any idea they were expecting and I’m a huge Sharks fan. I wish I had known or I’d have given him a break. Too bad they don’t give him some time off to be with his family, but I guess that as Captain he has to be there for the team anyway. But at least he seems to be helping his wife out too, since he was so pooped Thursday. Well anyway, congrats and good luck! (He will certainly need it with his hands so full now!)

Mom Said It

"We weren't trying to have kids. We left it up to fate. I knew there was a possibility, but I was really excited. Even if you are trying, just to see a positive result is shocking!"
