Rep confirms adoption of Madonna and Guy Ritchie's new son

Madonna4_1Madonna’s rep Liz Rosenberg has (finally, from the rumors the past few weeks!) been able to confirm that Madonna and Guy Ritchie are in the final stages of adopting one year old David from Malawi.

They "have been granted custody of their son David, and legal arrangements are being made to bring him home to his new family." The couple left the country on Friday without the baby but arrangements are expected to be completed soon.

David will join new older siblings Lourdes, 10 tomorrow, and Rocco, 6.

How absolutely wonderful! Any and all attention brought to countries in need is a blessing indeed! I think Madonna is helping to support others in Malawi too, right? Anything we can do to help the millions of starving people and people dying of AIDS all over the world is something we should all strive to do.

Congrats to them.

I wonder if they’re going to re-name the baby? David seems a bit too conventional for Madonna!

I hope to goodness she doesnt change his name. you cant rename a one year old. he’s going to be confused enough with new parents and siblings without being called something completely different!

I just read this article on Yahoo! It seems that officials and Malawi are trying to block the adoption because it is illegal.

I think they could rename him without any problems (if they actually even want to). A one year old is still very young. I know a few families that adopted 5 and 6 year old Russian children who changed their names, and so far, I haven’t noticed any ill effect from the name change.
