Rachael Ray's unselfish choice to delay motherhood

10/07/2006 at 07:50 PM ET

Celebrity food everything, expert/cook/show host/cookbook writer, Rachael Ray, spoke with OK about her new venture into daytime television. With The Rachael Ray Show on NBC, a continuous relationship with the Food Network and her 11th cookbook about to come out, Rachael says her plate is just too full for motherhood… at least for now.

"I have no immediate plans to slow down my workload," she says.  "It be a would hugely selfish thing and a bad idea to try to have a kid anytime soon. I feel like a bad mom to my dog."

She does say she loves children and that they will be just one part of her new talk/cooking show.

Rachael married lawyer/musician John Cusimano last year in Montalcino, Italy.

It’s beyond me why interviewers keep asking women about having a baby, without giving any consideration to whether or not a woman may actually desire to have children or may be having trouble conceiving and not wanting to share that with the world. It’s kind of rude, IMO.

It’s one thing to ask a pregnant woman/celebrity about her pregnancy, but another thing entirely to ask someone when they plan to become pregnant – especially if they can’t or don’t want to.

She is solid enough to know what she wants in her life to not live by the template many others live by. She is using her life to enrich and educate others and is making a great life from it. Good for her.

Forget biological clock. If she decides to eventually become a mom, she can always adopt.

My oldest daughter, who is 8 tomorrow, loves Rachel Ray! She has some of her cookbooks and loves to watch her show.

I totally agree Christina!! So many people ask me this question and it drives me nuts! I want to say its NONE of YOUR BUSINESS! For me its no big deal, but what if I DID have problems conceiving! It is jut incredibly rude! And to be asked that question in san interview is even worse!

Good for her. She is a class act. It is so refreshing to hear a ‘celebrity’ make such an informed, unselfish and responsible decision. I hope everything works out for her (adoption or biological children) if/when she decides she’s ready for kids. She’s so good with children on her show!

I LOVE RACHAEL RAY!! WHEN GOD SAYS THAT IT IS TIME FOR HER TO HAVE CHILDREN IT WILL HAPPEN WHETHER IT WILL BE NATURAL OR ADOPTION!!

I AM SO PROUD OF HER TO STAND IN HER BELIEFS!! SHE HAS A LOT GOING ON IN HER LIFE AND SHE DOES NOT WANT TO HINDER HER CHILDREN!!!

"We weren't trying to have kids. We left it up to fate. I knew there was a possibility, but I was really excited. Even if you are trying, just to see a positive result is shocking!"
