A joyful moment for Mike Maroth and son

Little Nolan Everett Maroth couldn’t contain his joy at seeing his father, Detroit Tigers pitcher Mike Maroth, when the team returned to Michigan following a game on Sunday, Sept. 24 to enter the play-offs.
The 29-year-old and his wife, Brooke, live with two-year-old Nolan in Florida during the off-season.

I live near Detroit and I saw the TV news report when Nolan ran into Mike’s arms. It was especially sweet, because the Tigers are in first place, they’re in the playoffs and hope to go to the World Series. Mike was on the team in 2003 when the Tigers couldn’t *buy* a game to win. They had Major League baseball’s worst win-lost record, 43 wins, 119 loses. The teams’ charter plane landed in Detroit Sunday night after they won to get a playoff spot. There was a crowd of family and friends there to greet the team…that’s where this photo comes from.

Such a sweet picture! You can see how excited little Nolan is to see his dad, and his affection is so sincere. What a cutie :)

I just wanted to add…Mike and Brooke are devout Christians and very involved in the community in the Detroit Area. They founded various community programs such as a reading literacy program; they are involved in ‘Rock and Wrap it Up’ a leftover food distribution program. Mike also works closely with the Disabled American Vets program and the Detroit Tigers Care Dreams Come True Program and has also raised funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. (His father has MS.)

Adorable. They have another son too, I think, a little baby.

Yes, they do have another son. I searched online and couldn’t find a name or birth date. They may have chosen to keep this info to private. Mike found out yesterday that due to pain in the elbow of his pitching arm, he will not be pitching in the playoffs. He had surgery this summer on the elbow and it hasn’t been pain-free as he hoped it would be. A coach said on tv that Mike was somewhat upset that he can’t pitch, but he accepts it. From what I’ve heard and read, Mike is an all-around good person, not at all like some people in sports. I wish the best for him and his family.

Here we go: Tate Montgomery, born 11-25-05, so he’s not even a year old yet.

Courtesy Tigers website. Nolan’s birthday is at the end of October, possibly during the middle of the World Series!
