Singer Monica is not raising a mama's boy

09/13/2006 at 12:00 PM ET

Monicaroc_1When asked by OK Magazine what the best and hardest aspects of being a mother are, R&B singer Monica said she enjoys the pure love that a mother and son share, but says she knows that her son needs space from her every now and then.

"The best part is the unconditional love we share, " she says, "He’s a child and nothing has ever happened to him to distort his image of what love is. The hardest part is having to leave him, even during the day when I drop him off at my mom’s house so I can take care of work stuff. But I recognize that he doesn’t need to be smothered by me. Mama’s boys are not cute."

Monica has one child, 15 month old son Rodney Ramone Hill III aka "Lil Rock", with her fiance, producer Rodney "Rock" Hill Jr.

Monica has a beautiful baby boy. As a fan I am very proud of her. I have watched her blossom into an adult and a Momma. Congrats to her and her main man, Lil’ Rock. Through it all she has always remained a lady. I would like to see pictures of her and the baby daddy, so I can see who he really favors. You go girl. Much love and God Bless!

Mom Said It

"We weren't trying to have kids. We left it up to fate. I knew there was a possibility, but I was really excited. Even if you are trying, just to see a positive result is shocking!"
