FINALLY: Suri Cruise debuts on CBS Evening News (and in Vanity Fair)

Those watching Katie Couric‘s debut on the CBS Evening News tonight also got to see another debut – the Vanity Fair cover featuring Suri Cruise, 4 1/2 months! The magazine will be available for purchase Wednesday in New York and Los Angeles, and nationally on September 12th. The issue includes a 22 page family portfolio, with the tagline a play on the term "Yessiree," or the song "Yes Sir She’s/That’s My Baby," reading, "Yes Suri, She’s Our Baby!" Larry King Live will be showing all 22 pages on his show tomorrow evening, for those interested.

The photos were shot in Telluride, CO, on July 27th, when Suri was almost 3 1/2 months old, and printed in Kentucky last week, as we exclusively reported. Excerpts from the article include:

- Suri’s name was chosen from a baby-naming book – not made-up, as many believed.

-Katie thought she was expecting a girl, but apparently did not find out the sex ahead of time. She says, "I was craving pink the whole nine months." She loved being pregnant, saying, "I was overjoyed in being pregnant…and then had to withstand ridicule about my pregnancy when it was the most normal, non-controversial thing imaginable."

-The rumors about her family and the existence of the baby really bothered Katie: “It’s really frustrating the amount of shit that’s out there. And the stuff they say about Suri?! You shouldn’t say that about us, and you can’t say that about my child."

-The couple was just waiting for the right time to introduce the public to their daughter. In fact, Tom says, “We were always going to release a photo."  “We weren’t trying to hide anything,” Katie adds.

-On the sonogram purchase controversy – it was really for their OB/GYN. Katie says, "[We were followed by the paparazzi, so the doctor made house calls]…The sonogram was for his use!"

-They chose Annie Leibovitz to take the photographs because, "Annie is the only professional photographer who ever shot Bella and Connor as children."

-Katie on being a first time mother: "The moment the doctor handed me Suri…I was just ready. The feeling is indescribable. All I can say is the moment I looked in her eyes I felt like … Mom. She’s a glorious girl. She’s the miracle of our life."

-The parents can’t decide who the baby looks like. "She has Kate’s lips and eyes," Tom says of the baby. "I think she looks like Kate." Katie counters, "I think she has Tom’s eyes. I think she looks like Tom."

Ok, she’s adorable. However…what’s up with her hair in the family pic? You can see lighter colored hair poking out of the fake looking black stuff. It is bad copy and pasting in Photoshop or did they put a wig on her. I don’t get why they would do either. My husband and I both have brown hair and our almost 3 year old has completely blonde hair. It happens all the time, why would they want to make her hair look darker than it really is?

After seeing the pics, I actually feel bad for thinking she didn’t exist. She looks sooo much like Tom. I always thought that he had almond shaped eyes like most Asians do, so her eyes don’t surprise me.

To all the people who thinks she is asian/wearing a wig/older than 3 1/2 months: Have any of you seen other babies?? And I am not talking your sisters or friends babies. I am talking like other people not close to you. Babies come in different shapes and sizes. With different hair color, and eye shapes.

My baby was born looking like a mexican. For 2 weeks she looked mexican. And she had DARK black eyebrows, and light brown hair. Plus she had hair on her ears, but that’s another story. I have a close friend who has a 6 month old with the blackest, thickest hair I have ever seen (and they have had to cut it 3 times now). My baby looks like she is only 10 months and she is turning one in 1 week. But when she was 3 months everyone thought she was 6 months. Babies have growing spurts. (Plus Suri is breastfeed and that makes kids grow differently than bottle fed kids.) Anyways the point is that BABIES GROW DIFFERENTLY AND LOOK DIFFERENT. We didn’t all look the same when we were born and we don’t look the same now!!

You should all go to the Vanity Fair web site and read the part of the interview they have with Katie. Ad then you should all feel bad for saying mean things about her BABY.

She is absolutely adorable! I was also surprised at the amount of hair she has, but I have seen other 4 mos olds with hair like that. Regarding her eyes, both her parents have almost almond shaped eyes, and with her chubby forhead it makes them appear ‘asian-like’. My mom told me people thought I was Asian when I was an infant and one of my daughters went through the same thing. Now that my daughter is 2, she doesn’t get that anymore. I hope she keeps Tom’s eye color and Katie’s hair color!

Yes, I think she does look a little asian in the first picture, but that doesn’t really mean anything, some babies have almond eyes and aren’t at all asian. That out of the way, I think the hair is fake. I agree that it looks like she has blondish/reddish hair poking out beneath in the second picture and in the first picture, well it looks like an elvis wig almost… may just be the lighting, I’ll have to wait and see on that one. I was also wondering if the pictures were taken at different times, because my main issue is that I think that the two pictures look like totally different babies. Again though, I think we should all wait and take a look at the whole spread.

Turned-down eyes are also a very well-known Irish physical trait (Asian eyes tend to turn upwards). Look at the writer Frank McCourt or any number of other famous people of Irish descent. I would not be surprised if Katie has Irish heritage given her name.

Someone here referred to the baby as “it” – that was really inhumane. I wouldn’t suggest saying that around any mother unless you want to have your stomach pulled out through your mouth. I hope Katie blasts all the haters in the article.

Suri is one of the most beautiful babies I’ve ever seen!! She has gorgeous hair, eyes and lips! My son was born with a mowhawk, and I was born with even more hair than Suri (I had WAY too much hair). I think Suri has a gorgous amount of it.

She looks more like Chris Klein or Josh Hartnett to me. They both have slightly Asian-looking eyes. The nose that looks like Tom’s appears to be photoshopped and not very well. There has been A LOT of photoshopping in these pictures. She looks to be between 8 1/2 and 9 months old and I did hear she was really born December 14th. I had big babies, and none of them looked like this at four months old…more like at 8 or 9 months old. I’m still not sure about this whole thing, but they photoshopped her beautifully. Now, I can understand why it took so long to get it just right because someone did a beautiful job.

First of all, I want to say that she is beautiful. I know that everyone that said that they had seen her said that she was beautiful, but people always say that when talking publically about a baby (especially someone else’s baby). But she is really is beautiful, they weren’t just saying that.
Secondly, I am sick of people saying that she looks Asian. Having slanted eyes does not make someone Asian. Plus, she is way too pale to be Asian (even just half Asian… I have cousins that are half Taiwanese and half caucasian, but they look Hispanic). My eyes are also almond shaped and have a slight slant downwards. I have had strangers (and occasionally people that I have known me for a while) approach me for years asking my what my heritage was and I would tell them Irish and English and they would say that they meant what my Asian heritage was. The fact that I am the most pale person on the planet, never seems to make them reconsider the question.
Actually, when I first saw the pictures on the news, my first thought was that she looked identical to my sister’s baby pictures. My sister’s and my hair were both as long as Suri’s at that age. While on the other hand, my niece and nephew were almost bald until they were over a year old.
Babies all look differently and grow at different rates. People just need to get over it.

Suri definitely has her mum’s nose, I think she looks more like Katie overall, though the eyes are Tom’s. I seriously hope this quiets the doubters. I think she looks like a beautiful mix of both of them. In that cover shot she really looks a lot like Tom. But you can also see a lot of Katie in her. Katie looks absolutely stunning in that shot. So happy and peaceful.

I’m thrilled for them that they got to do this on their own terms and that the paparazzi didn’t get any shots of her out first.

my Dh said the same thign…she looks Asian. I don’t see it at all. I think she looks like both of them and just has ALOT of hair! My DH had his first haircut at 3 months!!! So, some babies are just born with alot! I had quite a bit too, I am Native American and DH is English but he is also German/Jewish(not the religion, per say, but the region..as in Israel) so I guess that might have something to do with it. All babies are beautiful in thei own right. I think it is terrible what they had to go through with all the speculation about the baby even existing or Katie even being pregnant. I am not a fan of TC anymore, I think he has kinda lost it, but I am very gald they have a healthy and beautiful baby girl!

I think that the baby looks Asian, or at least partially Asian (ie. Katie + Asian dude?) so that’d explain the blue eyes (maybe), and perhaps a bit older than they claim.

I agree that she looks older than I would expect a 3 month old to look, but I think it’s the hair. I love the hair, though. And the pictures seem very natural and not at all overdone. I was born with a full set of hair and it was pitch black, because I had so much hair I had to keep my hair short growing up, it wasn’t until I was a teenager that I could actually grow my hair long and even now I have to keep it short, cause I still have a full set of hair. I even have a picture of me with it, sticking up. Of course it’s not black anymore. Lots of hair runs in my family. I still don’t believe that Katie was even pregnant and the baby is adopted. That’s only my opinion though. The baby is cute, but like a few other people I agree with that the baby looks asian or chinese. Maybe it’s just the pictures I don’t know.

One of the little ones I watch had soooooooooooo much hair they had to cut it almost once a week and it hasn’t stopped growing. I’m reading about alot of folks saying she looks “asian” on many sites. But I don’t. I think she does have slanted eyes but to me they look like Kates. My first thought when seeing the pics was that she looked older then 3-4 months but babies with lots of hair do. And it is possible to have that much hair. I didn’t have that much but mine was thick and dark and then 6 months later fell out and came in blonde lol!

I was in line at a store one day and this women had a baby in an infant seat and she had her hair pulled 1/2 way up. It was black, curly ringlets and I said wow was she born with that hair and her mother said, “all of it!” I was shocked cause it was down to her shoulders and the baby was 8 months old! So yes Suri’s hair is probably real.

She is cute. I still find the whole thing wierd, still into Tom or the relationship, but nonetheless won’t dispute the fact that the baby is adorable. Can’t wait to see her in a few years.

I think that Suri is a beautiful baby! She looks exactly like her Dad with a few bits of Mom in there, a lovely mixture of the two. I don’t know how people are still saying Kate wasn’t pregnant, and Tom isn’t the father.
You wanted pictures, you got pictures, she is beautiful and she is theirs, leave them alone!
That said, I have wanted to see these pics since she was born, but I’m glad they got to release them in their own time.
Even for celebs, it’s nice to have alone, bonding time with your baby, and it’s something that ust be very hard to accomplish in the public eye. Good on them for managing to keep Suri to themselves!

I too, at first glance thought she looked Asian, interesinting. My 2 yr old is pale with red hair, and we are Greek. So, who knows! She is cute, my eldest had so much hair when the doc delivered her, she looked like she had a toupee on. My other 2 had no hair what so ever. I was happy with one photo, Tom should have comeout with someting original (not copying Paul McCartney’s photo). The layout is a tad much. Babies are a blessing, not to be used as a show off piece.

I mentioned in one post that the baby maybe Chris Kliens and they are trying to make it seem that Tom’s the father, I see a couple people of people say on this post that the bubba looks like him. Funny!

I also think that both Shiloh and Suri are indeed both cute, all babies are cute. Even our own! As for Suri if she is adopted or not eventually as she grows the true will come out.

First off, she is an adorable baby! (Of course, in my eyes not as cute as my own 7 1/2 month old son hehe… every mom thinks her kid/kids are the cutest and the best! )
However, I think it’s absurd to claim that she is adopted and that she’s asian! Look at the expression of her face and the intensity of her eyes… she looks like her Daddy, there’s absolutely no doubt about that.
As for the slanted eyes, personally I don’t see it, but if they are that doesn’t mean she’s asian. I am caucasian, with a cross of British/Nordic on my dad’s side and Native Indian/French Canadian on my mother’s. Throughout my life, people have wrongly assumed I am asian because of the shape of my eyes and face.
My last comment is on the whole idea that Katie was never pregnant. I know from my own pregnancy and subsequent birth of my son that the pregnancy glow a woman gets cannot be recreated. And certainly, the love and joy she experiences from carrying her precious child (or in some cases children!) cannot be faked, no matter how talented an actress she is.
To tell a new mother that her baby is adopted and accuse her of not being pregnant is cruel and mean spirited. Unless you have specific DNA evidence or a taped confession, keep your theories and opinions to yourself.

She’s definitely both of theirs and definitely a beautiful baby, but all the “outrage” at the hype before this article is disingenuous on Katie’s part. If all the things she says are true, why didn’t they just nonchalantly counter it when it came up? But it is sheer gall, with all of their weird behavior before and after Suri was born, to express anger at the common masses for ever doubting them. I understand privacy, and I understand religious practices (well, I understand believing something strongly even if their particular practices seem really “out there” to me), but to cry “privacy” and so on and then have this huge magazine thing in which you have exactly the coverage you want (in spite of “they let us do whatever we wanted” from the editor or whomever she was the coverage was still manipulated)…so hypocritical.

I guess it is no longer here nor there as this magazine article and pictures have renewed interested from the fawning TomKat public and all is forgiven and forgotten. But they have a beautiful daughter. They are a lot luckier to have her than the other way around. Personal opinion.

The “asian” remarks in some of these postings seem a bit racist to me, even if unintentional (I hope that’s not too inflammatory for CBB- this is my first time posting!). Being part-Asian myself and married to someone of mixed race, I personally know that you never know how genes are going to pop up in the next generation! My husband was born with blond hair but has almond shaped eyes because of his Native American ancestry. If either KH or TC have some Asian or Native genes somewhere in their ancestries (not that I have any idea if they do), those genes could certainly show up in their daughter’s features. The fact that the parents look Caucasian doesn’t really mean anything. On the other hand, KH and TC both have almond shaped eyes, so why wouldn’t their child?

All that being said, I think the kid is very cool-looking and has gorgeous eyes and hair. And I think Suri looks enough like both of them to hopefully dispel rumors that she’s not their (biological) kid.

Eh … shes no Shiloh Jolie-Pitt. But she does/doesnt look asian, those are Katies eyes, that explains the shape. Katie’s eyes are unique, and so are Suri’s. Know what, In all honesty Suri reminds me of my own baby pics. I was born with a full head of thick black hair, and my eyes looked a lot simlier to Suri’s. I’m not asian at all, in fact i’m Irish French and German. One of my brothers has thick red hair and the other thin blonde hair. All different eye colors too, mine are brown, my red haired brother has blushish green and the blonde has gray eyes. We all have the same mother and father. Both my parents have brown eyes and dark hair, my mother’s being darker then my natural color which turned to chocolate brown by my first birthday, and my father’s being lighter. So even though i’ve been one to critize and not belive Suri was realy their biological child, seeing these pics convinces me that she is both Tom’s and Katie’s.

Suri looks like Katie in the cover picture but in the pic with her hair sticking up on Katie she looks like Tom. She’s pretty cute though. My friends baby had a ton of black hair like that. It was in a ponytail by the time she was 3 months old.

When I saw the pictures I thought that is one big and head-hairy baby for a 3 month old. The pictures were taken during the week of July 27. Suri was born April 19 (at 7lbs and 7oz, 20 in. long) so she wasn’t even 3 and half months at the time.

The baby has nothing to do with that. Suri is not an actor. I think they finally did the spread to stop the gossip and speak their minds on how cruel it was for people to say mean things. People are still gossiping. They can’t win for losing. Tom and Nicole did not let any pictures of their children be distributed until they were over 3 yrsd old. Nobody said anything I guess because it was common knowlege that they were adopted. Katie has every right to speak her mind in that interview after months of listening to ignorant people thiking that they are entitled to seeing that baby. The baby is theirs but here is a thought- Say the baby was adopted or it was from invitro or whatever- What does it matter? And if you personally had to go through hoops to have a baby would that baby be considered anything less than your own child? I don’t think so. You would love it deeply. Also, if it were YOU personally and you went through hoops to have her-would you TELL people? NO, it is NOBODIES business. To dig up such nonsense is incorrigable to me. God bless that beautiful baby and I hope she NEVER gets wind of the fact of all these ugly people in this world critiquing her. Congratulations to Tom and Katie.

What an adorable baby!! She’s one cutie all right!! I think she’s definitely 100% Asian. Finally after all these months were finally able to see her! She is one gorgeous baby! And ya know that photo reminds me a lot of Paul McCartney and his then baby daughter Mary. Suri is inside Tom’s jacket and was Mary in Paul’s. Looks like they copied!

Suri’s cute and gorgeous.I expected to see a more bigger eyes. but the more you look at her she’s getting more beautiful.Shiloh is beautiful too, but her beauty is typical.while Suri has something you wanna look for more.
People say her eyes looks Asian, me and my whole family are Asian but Suri doesn’t look like one.Chinese people has thinner eyelids that pulls upside,others may have bigger eyes but the pattern is the same.it maybe almond shaped or rounded.
Korean people also have chinky eyes but the end of the eyelids usually pulls on the side,leveled to the center of the eyeball.
Suri’s eyes is somewhat Japanese.chinky that pulls down but don’t you notice Tom Cruise also has the same eyes?Suri’s eyes will get a bit bigger when she grows up.I think babies have those eyes with their eyelids looking a bit fat that makes them look chinky because they sleep too much?…huh?(^_^)

People have really got to stop with the not so subtle insinuations. Tom and Katie are caucasion, why would they adopt a 100% asian child, like people wont see the difference?

Chris Klein, do you know that Katie and Chris brokeup in feburary? Josh Harnett, how sickening, they didnt even go out and were seen together, like once.

We’ve finally seen pictures of her and that girl is beautiful, now I know why those who saw her were raving. On the cover she looks exactly like Tom and even on the one where Katie is holding her up. Stop criticizing and critiquing a child simply because of her parents, its just not right.

I can see why Tom and Katie were in no rush to unveil pictures, why, when and how suri was conceived is none of our buisness but she does look like the both of them but a lot like Tom to me.

Suri isn’t very cute. She is kind of plain looking if you ask me. Here I was expecting this ravishing gorgeous baby girl, with thick amounts of hair, and all I see is a baby who looks boring to the naked eye.
She looks kinda Gothic because of the BLACK hair and WHITE porcelian skin.

Actually, I dont think people are refering to Asians or Asia negatively, just that different races tend to have different features, and that its unusual to see the child of two caucasion parents looking asian.

And Asian is just a blanket term for a race. If you were talking about Africans, you wouldn’t say like.. Madagascar-ians, or anything like that. Its just a blanket term to distingush a general race.

All that aside, the baby printed in these photographs *is* beautiful. However, I’m going to withold the majority of my judgments until I get to see an untouched, paparazzi shot. I dont know to what, if any, extent this shot was tampered with, and I know the paps dont bother to PS anything. Just my opinion.

People saying she looks asian is not an insult! It is just an observation, the first thing that may come to mind when you see the photos. I never thought Katie was pregnant and I think Suri may be adopted, but that is not an insult to the baby. I think if she is adopted though, they shouldn’t lie about it, adoption can be a wonderful thing…although…I suppose there are a lot of people who “secretly” adopt because they want people to think it is their child. I suppose that is their perogative, but I think starting a childs life with lies isn’t right. Tom has established himself to be not quite right and always making things up (Suri means princess in Hebrew…um No it doesn’t)
She is fairly cute looks much different and better in the picture to the right than the one on the left, I like blue eyes with black hair.
Oh and as an aside, there are asians who have blue eyes.

A lot of you should be ashamed of yourself. All this speculation of Suri being adopted, Suri wearing a wig, the picture being doctored and talk of Suri looking Asian, Suri not being cute, etc. is ridiculous. She is an innocent baby who hasn’t done a thing to any of you; not to mention, SHE’S GORGEOUS!!!!! There’s nothing wrong w/ her eyes, there’s nothing wrong w/ her hair, there’s nothing wrong w/ her at all. I agree w/ many of you who say that she looks like a combination of Tom and Katie. It just pisses me off that people would spend so much time actually being negative and cruel about a little baby!! You guys are the reason that celebrities have so many problems, and if it was me, I’d keep pictures of my baby to myself too!!!!! I am truly appalled! You all must have truly negative and empty lives to be so cruel (and simply ridiculous w/ the stuff that you are coming up w/), and you really should take some time to just reflect on your own unhappiness…

so cute, its understandable wanting to keep your child protected from media and so on…

Wow, and here I was thinking that comments including ‘anything that insults readers of the site’ would not be tolerated. Clearly I was wrong.

No one here is insulting Suri. They are commenting on the strangeness of her parents, and the circumstances surrounding her. And comments regarding her appearance, I have yet to see one truly negative one. People are entitled to have opinions. Saying that someone looks Asian, or that they have so much hair it looks like a wig is not an insult, its just a comment about the pictures. I have not seen anyone say, Suri is hideous because she looks Asian.. or Suri is sooo ugly with all that hair can you believe such a horrendous child exsists? No, of course not! People are entitled to have their opinions on the photographs, but as long as the comments aren’t outright cruel or hurtful, there should be no problem with them.

You might think that Suri looks like both of her parents, and someone else might think she looks nothing like them. Both opinions are valid. And neither is any more insulting than the other. Not everyone has to fawn over tomkat and suri, but again, as long as they arent cruel about it there should be NO problem.

And honestly, it is my strong belief that Tom and Katie set themselves up for this. No, we are not “entitled” to see pics of Suri, but the way they set themselves up, they shouldn’t be shocked that there is backlash.
