Q&A: Gwen Stefani's Agent Provocateur bra

Af739919CBB Reader Dina wrote in to inquire about my Agent Provocateur bra (thesame bra you’ve seen Gwen Stefani sporting around town).  She said,"I am asking mainly about the support and comfort as I know it isstylish. I have been through several bras in my almost eight months ofnursing and am not pleased with any. I also cannot wear underwire as Ihave already dealt with mastitis three times."

2dce5d0fI think it really depends on your size.  I needa lot of support.  I have accepted that I will not get the same kind ofsupport I’m used to with non-nursing bras so I am okay with the AgentProvocateur bra.  It is my prettiest bra and I feel mighty fine in it.That said, it is not my favorite bra due to the lack of support.  I’malso not 100% thrilled with the slight pointiness it gives me, a laBettie Page.

$110 is a lot to spend on a nursing bra but it makes me feel goodand there are so few pretty nursing bras available.  I will probablywear it less often so it will last longer so that’s good.  If there isan Agent Provocateur shop near you or you don’t mindreturning it if you order online and don’t like it, give it a shot.Going to the shop is an experience and worth it for the trip alone butleave your husband home.  (The sales women wear white nurses’ uniformsand heels.)

FYI- Gwen has the leopard print andblack with red but it also comes in black, and fuschia.

What are your favorite nursing bras?

Lemysteremys001161hHere are my favorite nursing bras:
Anita Nursing Bra style 5075 (best price found) $37 plus no shipping over $50.
Le Mystere Florence Underwire Nursing Bra
style 161 – $52.  (pictured left) Hands down my favorite nursing bra.Made of lace and cotton, it is very supportive, comfortable and even alittle sexy.
Grenier Mater Nursing Bra – $36.  Cotton underwire with a smidgeon of lace.  My third favorite bra.
Eve Alexander Lycra Nursing Bra
– $30-38.  Really supportive for a soft cup bra.
Eve Alexander Lace Nursing Bra- $30-38.  Very pretty- comes in white with pink or black.
Bravado Designs Nursing Bra- $36.  A great comfortable bra for your pregnancy and early nursingdays, especially to wear to bed.  I didn’t find the larger sizes to besupportive enough for going out of the house but I will wear them athome when my other bras are in the wash.
Elle Macpherson Intimates Maternelle non-underwire drop cup bra- $50. My newest bra so I’ll have to wait to tell you about it.

You might also want to try the new La Leche League nursing braavailable at Nordstrom’s.  I haven’t seen it yet but I figure it’s gotto be good if they are endorsing it.

I’ve purchased all my bras from http://www.breastisbest.com

I have an unusually size so its hard for me to find bras. The owner of the website is very knowledgable and has been helpful to me. She has notes about each kind of bra and its good points and why it also may not work for you.

Take it from this mama who wears a 38J, if I can find something you can too!

I have been nursing my daughter for 8 months. I have tried many nursing bras and believe it or not my favorite is from Target. The ones (I have four of the same) that I like has no underwire and offers a decent amount of support. It looks exactly like the Elle Macpherson Intimates Maternelle non-underwire drop cup bra posted above (please give a review Danielle when you try it because I am been on the verge buying it).

I would have trouble supporting a company who portrays nurses as little more than sex symbols who sell sexy bras. As a L&D nurse and HUGE breastfeeding supporter I am more than a little offended by this behavior, even if they do sell nursing bras. We nurses have worked too hard for our automony and place in the medical field to be reduced to objects in which to drool over (hence the leave the husband’s at home comment)

Two comments, Danielle: I love the Elle Macpherson bra for around the house, but find that I need more support if I’m out in the world. Can’t wait to try the Agent Provacateur one. And I’ll be bringing my husband – he deserves a little eye candy once in a while, considering it’s mostly Juicy sweats and nursing tops in our house lately.

BRAVADO BRAS! So good I buy them for every pregnant friend. Nursing bras have to be great (I absolutely lived in mine 24/7) and Bravado bras are.

I had three favorites: the Babystyle WhisperKnit Nursing Bra tied with Japanese Weekend Hug bra (even though I’m quite busty, both were awesome bras for sleeping in and lounging around) and the Medela Comfort Bra.

My favourite is Bravado. Comfortable, practical, cheap, and comes in leopard print.
