Spice Girl Geri Halliwell's baby abuse allegations

British singer Geri Halliwell has taken allegations of physical abuse on her daughter to the police. The claims were made against a temporary staff member who was left alone with Geri’s three month old baby, Bluebell, two weeks ago, and a statement was released yesterday saying: "Bluebell is now happy and well, and there are no further concerns for her welfare. " According to reports, Geri became suspicious when she came home to a screaming baby, with the staff member making no attempts to comfort her, then found hand markings on her daughter’s leg. The matter is under investigation by the police and the Scotland Yard’s Child Protection Unit.

This is exactly why I don’t lezve my kids with anyone other than family. You can’t trust anyone.

It’s so important not to leave your kids with strangers, especially at such a young age. I wouldn’t have left my baby (if at all) with anyone else than my parents, who I completely trust. I didn’t even let close friends look after him until he was four years old. I just can’t believe how a doting mum like Geri can trust a stranger (I read in the newspaper it was a babysitter from an agency) with her little baby. Now, I’m sure that most sitters are great and caring and all, but there are always some black sheep and they are only identified after a child got hurt.

I’m just glad Bluebell is all right now!

These types of things could happen with anyone, FAMILY included. The majority of kids who are abused in the home are victims of relatives, people that are highly trusted.

When I was a child and my mom left me with my father, that’s when he’d beat the snot out of me. My FATHER. So just because they’re family, doesn’t mean they’re automatically the best person to care for your child.

The best person(s) to watch your child(ren) is someone that you completely trust and know to be trustworthy. Personally, I’d use family members first too, but I wouldn’t turn away certain close friends when my son is older.

I’ve only ever left my 7 week old son with my mother. She’s the only person I’m comfortable with right now because he’s so little.

I agree completely with lizzielui and marie. This can happen to anyone, by anyone – FAMILY included!

A hand print on a baby ?! now that is sick! Good on Geri for going to the police.

Poor Geri, it must have been awful to come home to, good on her for reporting it.

I agree–it DEF can happen within the family, they aren’t excluded by NO means. Anything can happen!
