Julianne Moore's puppy tale

08/24/2006 at 08:00 AM ET

Actress Julianne Moore, 45, was not pleased when a new puppy died of distemper just after three weeks. A source comments, "Julianne and the kids were very upset. She called the store to complain after hearing others from her dog’s litter suffered the same fate, but the store denied responsibility." Moore and hubby Bart Freundlich, 36, have son Cal, 8, and daughter Liv, 4 1/2.  But the family coped and found themselves a new dog – 7 month old terrier/Labrador mix Cherry who has been bought from a breeder.

Yep…just another example of why you never buy puppies at a store, people. That poor family!

Adopt, don’t shop. It’s that simple.

Why would you buy a puppy from a store?? Uhhg. Very sad for the kids and the puppy.

It is of course sad that the puppy died, but that dosn’t mean it’s completely wrong to get one from a store. Buying a puppy from a breeder is no guarantee for good health, either. We got our two dogs from a store, also our cat and 2 rabbits, and all were and are fine, sweet natured and are doing great. In the past we adopted dogs and cats as well and never had any problems regarding their health or behaviour.

Poor puppies!! I would never buy a pet from a pet store – those places are horrible.

i bought my dogs from a pet store but i adopted my cats from the humane society and one of my bought dogs had worms and one of the adopted cat had worms. i don’t think it matters whether you buy or adopt your pets, they all have the chance for health problems. if one pet has worms or something the chance that they are all going to get it is very high.
but i am a firm believer in rescuing animals. with so many pets that need good homes at shelters, why not adopt an animal in need? that’s just my own opinion.

That is sad!

I saw a picture of Julianne Moore in a recent US Weekly, and thought she looked kind of pregnant… has anyone else noticed? It could have just been her dress.

Well I have to say I am not incredibly surprised having come from a pet store, haven’t they heard of puppy mills??? But no matter what I am so sorry for them, and I am sure it was especially hard for the kids, and I am glad they went the breeder route the next time!
