Rumor: Victoria Beckham's diet for a daughter?

Victoria Beckham, 32, has been eating oranges and lemons in hopes that an acidic diet will help her have a daughter, says UK tabloid Closer. A source told the magazine: "She’s been told that a highly acidic diet will help her chances of conceiving a girl and as a consequence is eating loads of lemons, oranges, grapefruit and apples."

Victoria has also been advised to gain weight in order to get pregnant. She is 5’6” tall and weighs only about seven stone (45 kg; 99 lbs), meaning she is too underweight to conceive. During a recent holiday to Italy with husband David, 31, Victoria gave up on her salad diet for oysters and chocolate pudding in order to gain weight. The Beckhams have three sons – Brooklyn, 6, Romeo 3 1/2, and Cruz, 18 months.

Obviously, the male chromosome determines the sex of the child, but did you use any particular methods if you were trying for a certain sex? Anyone use Microsort?

Hum…diet for a girl eh? I’m a bit confused here since, biologically, it is the FATHER that actually determines the sex of the baby to be by giving him/her his chromosomes…but who knows!Good thing she started to eat again…

- Amelie on

Does she have an eating disorder (bulimia or something?). I’m not asking to be mean or anything. I’ve just NEVER heard of anyone having 3 kids and only weighing 99 lbs. without something being wrong.

- curious on

I hope she has another boy! All these things she is doing in hopes of having a girl are ridiculous!

- Courtnee' on

Am wondering why everyone is always having a go at Victoria…..are people just jealous of slim women post baby ??? I am 5ft 7, have had 2 children, absolutely zero stretchmarks and only weigh 113lbs right now with no eating disorders….just a high metabolism and a very busy Mum. just wanted to make that comment that there ARE slim mums out there who are perfectly normal.

- Abbey on

I have to agree with Abbey. I’m 5’3 and had two kids. I am actually much slimmer now than before I had any kids and I eat like a horse! I think everyone is different.

However, Victoria has admitted to eating disorders in the past. When she was in stage school she was told she was too fat to be a dancer and she began to have this difficult relationship with her body, and with food. She also has polycistic ovaries which have caused her issues with her weight and skin.

- Virginia on

Why isn’t it possible to comment on the suri cruise news????
Anyway..for Victoria good luck to her, I hope she’ll have a daughter this time, her kids are gorgeous!

- esther Panda on

:s No comments!!!

- Ana on

Never heard about that diet for having a girl.

The only thing I do know is that the sperm you need for a boy are faster and more agile. The sperm you need for a girl are slower swimmers. Therefore, if you do the ‘baby dance’ the fast sperm will swim to the egg quickly and beat the slower ones. If there is no egg there then they will die, but often if the egg is released the next day the slower sperm will be arriving in time and may conceive.

This all comes into effect if you do the deed before you ovulate or after. We tried it and got a girl, but that could be TOTALLY chance and we weren’t too worried either way just thought it was worth doing the day before ovulation and see what happened.

- Trixie on

I was just curious!!! Not need to get all defensive!!! I don’t know alot about her. So, I was wondering if she had a high metabolism or the fact that she is chasing after 3 very young boys or if she has ever suffered from an eating disorder. But like I said in my previous post, I wasn’t trying to be mean or anything!!! Can’t anyone just ask a simple question (and get a simple answer back) without everyone else jumping down their throats!!!

- curious on

I have three boys myself and tried the Shettles method for #3 and it didn’t work to get a girl. I’ve researched all the methods for years now and have met many people with the perfect attempt and still got the opposite of what they wanted. The only real way to sway is through Microsort, which I will be doing for #4 this winter. I’m surprised the Beckhams don’t just do that!

- Courtney on

Why doesn’t she go for gender selection instead? They just pick out female sperm and mix them with the eggs. Then after that it’s just like IVF. I mean she has the money, why not use it? Or adopt a little girl?

Anyways, yeah I was 5’6″ and 108lbs when I concieved my son on accident. It’s definitely possible she doesn’t need to gain weight obviously she has 3 kids and was pretty skinny before all of them. I am only 110lbs now post baby and will be pregnant again soon.

- Sam on

presumably microsort is sex selection? we dont have that in the uk and i think in fact sex selection here is illegal unless to avoid a sex linked genetic disorder. maybe they could go to the states for it?! they’re certainly got the money!
anyway this talk about special diet is all hearsay. VB rarely gives interviews and it’s always ‘close friends’ that say she’s desperate for a girl. they clearly love their boys so i’m sure they’ll be delighted whatever sex another baby is.

- freya on

Actually, I did not change my diet, but I did other things to help me concieve a daughter after having my son. I bought a book called “How to Choose the Sex of Your Baby”, and tried to follow most of the book’s suggestions. Now, we did concieve a daughter, but whether or not it was the book or sheer luck, I’ll never know. I am very happy to have had a son and a daughter though! :o )

- anon on

I used the Shettles method and got my girl. My first two children were boys and I really wanted a girl the 3rd time around. I bought the book “How to choose the sex of your baby” and actually just followed the sex time table instructions for a girl. So I’ll say that it’s possible to choose the sex of your baby.

- MsJanaya on

I was curious about this acidity comment so I looked it up online. This is a summary blurb from the shettles method book:

The pH of the women’s tract is also very important. A more acidic environment favors girls, since it will kill the weaker y-sperms first, leaving a greater quantity of x-sperms available to fertilize the egg. On the other hand, a more alkaline environment favors boys.

Interesting….who knows.

- madison on

I believe it. The pH in the womens tract makes sence and also the sex time table thing. I don’t think you can 100% choose the sex of your baby but I believe you can improve your chances by these methods. I’ve also heard that lying on your back and holding your legs over your head for a while right after sex can improve your chances of a girl. This is because the “girl sperm” are slower and doing this allows gravity to “get them up there”, where the “boy sperm” are. Worked for me, twice! The one time I didn’t do it, we got a boy! Makes ya wonder.

- Rae on

microsort is actually just spinning and washing the sperm to separate the X’s and Y’s and then do IUI(intrauterine insemination). I believe what most people think is gender selection they are actually thinking of PGD(preimplantation genetic diagnosis), which is actually used to screen for genetic disorders and if families have certain sex linked diseases that run in their families like Fragile X, they can choose the opposite sex embryos to be implanted back during IVF.

Victoria is a bit thin, I mean 5’6″ and only 99 pounds is considered underweight. Obviously her doctor thinks so. Whatever she does, it should be healthy. If that measn putting on 10 pounds, so be it. I think she kinda looks a bit skeleton-ish at times, although she is still a very beautiful woman.

- tink1217 on

PGD is also used to help couples with unexplained recurrent miscarriages pick the best quality embryos in hopes of having a PG carry to term. Just wanted to clarify that it isn’t just used for genetic reasons.

- tink1217 on

After I had my first, a boy, I read somewhere that there are more male sperm than female, and if you want a girl to hold off sex till you know you are ovalating and then go for it 3 times a day, I did it twice, and got 2 girls.

- Dawn on

Are there certain ways to get a boy too?? I want all boys, I know they say boy sperm are faster but I just wanted to know if there are ways of increasing the chances.

- Kori on

usually they say to have a boy, have sex on your ovulation day exactly and do it “doggie style” that way the sperm are deposited close to the cervix and don’t have to swim far. For a girl, have sex a day or two before your ovulation day and do it “missionary” style. Aso, an orgasm should be achieved for a boy and none for a girl. The acidic diet thing is also recommended for a girl too. All in all, its 50/50 either way!!

- tink1217 on

I used the Shettles method for my son and daugther, and obviously, it worked. Also, I checked after the fact and they were in line with the Chinese Gender Calendar; as well.

- Melanie on

why can’t people just be happy for what they get! geez I know so many people who would love to just conceive one child yet people complain if they have too many boys or girls! It makes me sick! If your blessed with children be happy you have them and their healthy! So what if you never have that daughter or son. Maybe it’s just not meant to be!

- joy on

Eating acidic foods will do the opposite!
They make your body neutralize the acid and go alkaline.
HIGH protein diets create an acidic body, not citrus!

- preesi on

LMAO! Diet of oranges and lemons? Puhlease…..that woman have been saying she loves fresh fruits and veggies since Brooklyn was born and eats loads of oranges and peaches so I dont see how this is “new” news.

Also Joy, the Beckhams never said they are not happy with their boys, they always say they been blessed with three beautiful children but I am sure not just the Beckhams but everyone else after having 2 or three boys/girls, they would want to have something they dont and this is all tabloid talks. The last time they said they want a little girl was before Cruz was born nearly 2 years ago.

- Posh_Fan on

I can understand why they wouldn’t go with gender selection in a lab. It seems terrible. Why would anybody with a healthy body and no genetic worries make a baby in a lab? It seems ridiculous. Just to get a girl or boy. People are so selfish. Never to think how the child will feel when he or she grows up. Or the other children in the family. They will certainly think they weren’t the “right” gender.

- melle on

I’m planning on trying for my first baby next year, and while I’ll be happy with a healthy baby, I’d love a daughter first. Not sure if I’d go to any extreme measures, but if I had 3 sons and had the money to keep going til I got a daughter… I would!
I hope Victoria and David get a daughter this time!!!

- Kirrily on

What ever happened to wanting a healthy happy baby?

I have two boys and get sick and tired of people asking me when I am going to try for a girl. I dont plan to have any more children and even if I did I honestly can say that as long as I have a good pregnancy (have had one miscarriage) and a healthy baby, I would care what sex it was.

All this mumbo jumbo about doing this and that to choose the sex is rubbish. You are blessed everytime you have a child, you should just be grateful for that!

- Michelle on

This is a tabloid, doesn’t make it a fact. People always get on their backs about this based on tabloid crap, not what David & Vic have said themselves.

I would want all boys myself. I don’t see anything wrong w/wanting a certain sex over the other. Does not mean you don’t feel blessed or the boy or girl you have. There is a difference in raising them so what is wrong with people wanting to experience both?

- Alisa on

Do you mean to tell me you can sort out physical disorders even before conception? (Does that work with disorders such as inherited disabilites, ie. blindness, deafness, etc.?)

I would think that would cost a lot of money no doubt.

Anyway as far as the Beckham’s go, I guess with David being such an athlete obviously his Y sperm must be very strong swimmers so no wonder they have all boys so far! lol! :D

Hopefully they’ll get their girl someday (so that the shops can have fun marketing “little Gucci dresses, etc.” to Victoria for her daughter), however if they don’t, then as long as their kids are happy and healthy.

- Autumn on

autumn, certain genetic disorders like Tay Sachs or hemophilia and some others are what PGD can help with. Diseases that are life threatening and affect quality of life severely. PGD also helps with using the best quality embryos in cases of recurrent miscarriages due to either chromosomal translocations or unexplained reasons. Blindness and deafness, I don’t think they can sort those yet. PGD yends to run an extra couple thousand dollars on top of the regular IVF cost. IVF is the only way you can do PGD.

- tink1217 on

I did Microsort for a girl and it worked. I think those that disapprove of high tech methods to help your odds either have no kids or at least one of each. Try raising four boys then see how you feel. I am totally jealous of those who can use low tech methods and it work for them. I had to spend a butt load of money but I would do it again in a heartbeat. I hope she gets her girl.

- 4boys1girl on

4boys1girl, I do disapprove of high tech methods to choose the gender and so far I only have one boy. Maybe it’s because I believe in God and a reason for everything, and because I adore my boy, and tend to get annoyed with little girls, and yes I am girly and no I’m not a tomboy. But if someday God gives me a girl and thinks that’s what is right for me I am sure I will love her. I’m not going to have a baby in a lab just to get more boys. I will take your 4 boys if you don’t want them!! Kidding, kidding, I’m sure you love them =)

- Kori on

I agree with what Kori has posted above.

Baby boy or girl…they will have what God has meant for them to have.

I love Victoria Beckham.

- Tina on

some people just don’t know how blessed they are to just have biological children. When babies come naturally to you and you’ve never experienced struggles with having children, you learn to accept the blessing of a child (boy or girl).

I haven’t experienced it bc I am not ready to have kids but I hope that I too don’t struggle. Unfortunately I have many friends and family that do and I feel for them bc all they’d like to be blessed with is one child and they don’t care either way what it is as long as it’s healthy.

- joy on

As the mother of 3 boys, I did in fact try the Shettles method with my last one. I was willing to try natural methods (diet, sexual positions, etc) to see if I could sway my chances to have a girl, but I never would have considered artificial means. I waited to get pregnant that third time until I knew I would be ready to love any child (whether it be boy or girl). Apparently, I am meant to be the mother of all boys because I adore them and would only have another child if I could guarantee it would be a boy!

- Kelly on

I always wanted 4 kids when i was younger. I now have 4 kids. They are all boys and they are all lovely. I do not feel the need to have a girl and quite frankly am glad i do not have one. My friends girls would certainly put off anyone having girls especially when they get into their teens..!!

- nicole on

Of course we all know that we should be thankful for being able to give birth to healthy children but that is not the point of trying to sway for a specific gender. Just because a person has healthy children does not mean that they don’t have the right to wish for a daughter. And it does not mean that you are insensitive to those who have trouble conceiving. A person who doesn’t know the joy of giving birth is far worse off than someone who doesn’t ever know the joy of a daughter (and/or son) but that doesn’t mean that a person can’t, won’t, or shouldn’t feel disappointed by not having a daughter and/or son. Swaying for a specific gender does not mean you are taking it out of God’s hands, but it does mean that you’d like to increase your chances. I’m glad some of you have not had to test your theory’s on how you would react if child #3 was a boy. It is different for everyone so it is best not to pass judgment because someone doesn’t respond the way you believe they should. For what it’s worth I had 4 fantastic boys (one set of twins) and was done having children before having an oops baby that turned out to be a girl. I always wanted a daughter but was thrilled to death with my boys. They are the best. I believe in the end, you’ll always get what you’re meant to have no matter what you do, but I think it’s pretty awesome that there are things a person can do to increase their chances of conceiving a certain gender and to know the joy of parenting both genders if that’s their preference.

- Stacie on

that woman is so pathetic that it makes me laugh when i have to read about her wims of trying for a girl, jeez b4 my daughter was born i was eating steaks and gammon etc theres no way of knowing that acidy foods help to conceive a girl

firstly VB needs to get over herself, start eating cuz b0ll0cks does she eat, and thirdly you get what your given. i know someone who has 9 girls and someone who has 5 boys and they are happy with what they got.

and so should she, grr i hate having to see her front page of magazines sayin stuff… shes no one special no matter who shes married too

- elaine on

Oh my God, elaine, I can hardly understand what you wrote.

I have two boys and a girl and I always thought I wanted all boys, as well. Now that I have my daughter I feel that I would have missed out had I never experienced a girl. Of course, had I had three boys it would have been wonderful, too, but I don’t think people should criticize those who wish for a certain gender.

- yogadaisy on

Science has shown that some men are more prone to one chromosome than the other. Seeing has how they have 3 boys, chances are Mr. Beckham is prone to the “Y” over the “X”. Beyond that, statistics shows that if you already have multiples of one gender, you are more likely to conceive that gender again.

But hey, I really like all these methods that have been mentioned. According to them, I guess I’m going to have another girl this time!

- ProudMommy77 on

eating citrus fruits actually has an alkaline effect when digested, and furthermore eating these foods will do little to affect the environment of her uterus.

- chelsea on

well thats good for her. for those of you that are wondering why she is eating an acidic diet. Even though it’s the father that decides whether it a boy or girl. it is also the mother’s ph balance inside the vagina and uterus that also helps determine. girls can stand more acidic environment so if the ph is acidic the boys will die and the girls will have a better chance to be fertilized. anyway just thought i’d through that out there for you guys that didn’t understand.

- p.k on

from dr’s advice years ago:

acidic = vinegar douche = girl

alkaline = baking soda douche = boy

- wealthy mom on

Melanie, you sound like a total moron! So what if people want to choose the sex of their baby, what business is that of yours? That’s tough crap if some people can’t conceive, not MY problem. They can just suck it up and mind their own business.

Sex selection rules! :-)

- You People are dumb on

i have seen recommended techiniques that although arent fool proof apparently i dont know how you do it lol but using bicarbonate of soda and water can make a more favoured environment for Y-Sperm or something like vinegar to make more acidic for X-Sperm its just something i read but it does make sense i suppose, i hope she does get it as long as she puts in the proper efforts with putting on weight for her and the babies sake more than anything but bless her i hope she does it xxxx
