by British correspondent Joanna:

Former British Olympic swimmer Sharron Davies is overjoyed to be pregnant at the age of 42, after undergoing IVF treatment for the last four years. Sharron and her third husband Tony Kingston are thrilled to be expecting their first baby together, especially after suffering two miscarriages previously.

Sharron already has two children from her second marriage to athlete Derek Redmond, eight-year-old Grace and 12-year-old Elliot.

Sharron is one of Britain’s most successful swimmers ever and was the youngest member of the Great Britain swimming team at the 1976 Olympics at the age of 13, going on to win 2 gold medals, 2 silver and 1 bronze in her career. She is now a TV presenter, mainly covering sports.

That is wonderful! I’m so happy for Sharron that she was finally able to get pregnant after trying IVF for so long. That must have cost a fortune. Of course it would all be worth it to get your baby at the end. I am going through fertility treatments because I have PCOS, and I have one more month on Clomid, before moving to Letrozole with IUI if nothing happens. I have been trying for 2 years. I certainly understand what Sharron must have gone through. I can only pray to God that I don’t need to have IVF, because we will have to go into debt. But, who cares, it’s only money. If I can give my husband the child he has always wanted, anything is worth it. I’m sure Sharron and everyone else suffering from infertility feels the same! :)

"I had to make a decision that I could sleep with every night. I did feel responsible for the young girls who I probably confused and let down. I apologize for that. But I wasn't trying to glamorize teen pregnancy."
