Kylie Minogue: "I would love some children"

07/17/2006 at 09:00 AM ET

Pop star Kylie Minogue, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2005, still hopes to have children with her French actor boyfriend, Olivier Martinez (Unfaithful). Because chemotherapy & radiation can make it difficult for cancer survivors to conceive, 38-year old Kylie turned to a revolutionary technique to preserve her dream of having a family. "Slivers of her ovaries were taken out and frozen to be reimplanted over the next few years in the hope they will release eggs. The technique has led to two successful pregnancies in only a handful of trials." Kylie said in a recent interview, "We’ll have to wait and see" whether she will be able to get pregnant. Kylie is going back on tour in November and she also has frequent check-ups to make sure the cancer has not recurred.

It also said in an article in The Age newspaper (Melbourne)…

“Minogue admitted she has already undergone two IVF treatments in a bid to conceive a baby with her French boyfriend, Olivier Martinez. She said she was “completely distraught” when those attempts failed. It was not clear whether the IVF treatments took place before she was diagnosed with breast cancer last year.”

She’s a brave woman. It proves what a positive outlook she has on life that she was thinking about the future even when in the midst of a terrible disease. I very much hope they have their baby.

In regards to the above comment stating she has already undergone IVF, sorry, but I don’t believe it.

Kylie has said she is not back to full strength or health yet. She has been given the all clear cancer wise, but says she has a long road ahead of her in terms of complete recovery.

In light of her recent statements (which, if anyone is interested can be found on People.com today at: http://people.aol.com/people/article/0,26334,1215295,00.html ) I highly doubt she is planning on getting pregnant just yet. I would imagine she would want to be fully recovered and physically stronger before attempting to become pregnant.

Oops. I should clarify that I don’t believe she has had IVF treatments since her cancer diagnosis. Perhaps she had IVF before her illness, but I doubt she has since her cancer? I wasn’t clear in my prior comment. 8)

Kylie is an amazing woman. I thought she looked stunning on that latest TV interview.

I hope her dreams of motherhood come true.

Mom Said It

"I had to make a decision that I could sleep with every night. I did feel responsible for the young girls who I probably confused and let down. I apologize for that. But I wasn't trying to glamorize teen pregnancy."
