British marathon runner Paula Radcliffe, 32, announced this morning that she will not be defending her European Championships title because she has something more important to be concerned about – her new baby! Paula announced that she is 14 weeks pregnant and is due on January 6th with her and husband Gary Lough’s first child. She will continue to train at the same level for as long as possible, but will not run in top level competitions during her pregnancy, although she does plan to continue to run "low-key" races to keep in shape. Once the baby is born, she will take time off, but plans to be back "more mature and with the wisdom that is part of being a mother" in time for the World Championships in Japan later in 2007.
