4star_furn_1a_675097Tampa Bay Devil Rays catcher Dioner Navarro, 22, and his family were involved in a traffic accident on Tuesday, July 4. The catcher, along with his wife, Sherley, and nine-month-old son, Dioner Abdiel Navarro Jr., were in his sports utility vehicle when another vehicle tapped the rear end causing him to hit another car and flip twice.

"At the moment I didn’t realize how bad it was. My wife got out, I reached into the back seat and got the baby and handed him to her. Then I crawled passenger side and saw the damage," he said. The vehicle was totaled. Dioner walked away with just a scratch on the wrist and a cut above one of his ankles requiring two stitches while his wife had a bump on the back of her head. Their son was uninjured.

You know what I find disturbing about this article? He removed the baby from the car seat!!!!!!!!! As a paramedic, that baby should have NEVER been moved!!!! For those moms out there, if you are ever in an accident with your baby — never remove them from the seat unless it’s your last resort. Remove the baby IN the seat. It’s the safest thing for your baby! Car seats are made to “capsulize” your baby, and you can do more harm then good by removing your baby from their seat.

::stepping down off my soapbox::

I think if that had been me I would have moved the baby too, it’s just your natural instinct to try to protect a kid from danger, ever if what you’re doing could be dangering them more without your knowing. But thank God the baby wasn’t hurt!

I am just glad they are all okay. Who knows what any of us would have or will do in that situation.

I’m just glad they’re all okay. That’s what matters the most. It could’ve been a lot worse, a lot…

They’re truly blessed to have come out pretty much unscathed.

Susan-
Thank you for mentioning to remove the baby in the entire carseat…..I am sure any parent in that situation would not think of that without knowing ahead of time!! Just act on instinct!

I am glad that their family is ok. Accidents are such a scary thing!

"It helps that other moms had said that once they had their babies, they forgot they were ever pregnant. So once my focus became the baby and not the pregnancy, it was a very easy decision."
