Scrubs star John C. McGinley wears his heart on his wrist

Fans of the sitcom Scrubs may have noticed John C. McGinley, who plays the hilarious acerbic Dr. Cox, wearing a multi-colored bracelet on his wrist. This is the official Buddy Walk bracelet, which John wears to show his support for the program. The Buddy Walk was created to raise funds and awareness for the National Down Syndrome Society.

John has a very personal connection to this program– his adorable 8-year old son Max has Down Syndrome. As John says on the Buddy Walk website, "Max has taught me that people with Down syndrome are more LIKE the rest of us than they are different. They have feelings, talents and dreams just like everyone. And they deserve to be accepted and appreciated for who they are and what they contribute to our communities." According to his proud dad, Max is "fun, smart, and silly. He loves to play with his friends, draw pictures, and go to school." To help Max and other kids like him, visit the Buddy Walk website and find one in your area.

I’m so happy to see that CBB is putting information like this on their website. I’m also happy to see that John is sharing his personal experiences with Down Syndrome in this way. My cousin has a daughter with down syndrome and I am constantly amazed by how many negative misconceptions there still are associated with this. It’s nice to see someone who is taking the time to try to dispel some of those misconceptions.

He sounds like such a wonderful dad and it’s so nice that he, a public figure, is using his experience in fatherhood to educate others.

I love this guy. He is the funniest person on the show, and the Globes and Emmies have neglected him (and the rest of the show) for years. What a classy guy – and a good father!

I love the show and I love his character and now I love him even more! What a sweetheart! I agree, it’s nice to see more of these posts on the site. The more happy, touching information the better :O)

as a mom of a son with mental and physical disablities I am so happy to see something like this on CBB. I LOVE McGinley, he is a riot!! I didn’t know he had a son with Downs. My son goes to school with lots of kids that have Downs and I can honestly say they are wonderful children that just warm your heart in every way! Now, I love McGinley even more!!
