Weekly Pregnancy Rumor Debunking

06/29/2006 at 09:17 PM ET

In an attempt to quash the pregnancy rumors that perhaps they themselves helped create, this week’s US Weekly  (July 10th) has an article where they contacted reps of stars who are supposedly pregnant.

According to their reps, neither Jennifer Aniston nor Jennifer Lopez are pregnant.  We know Reese Witherspoon isn’t pregnant because she’s suing Star Magazine for fabricating the rumor "to boost the tabloid’s sagging sales."

But as we learned with Sinead O’Connor, just because they aren’t pregnant now doesn’t mean that they won’t become pregnant in the few months, next year, etc.

I take the denials from the reps with a huge grain of salt since there have been so many celebrities who have denied that they were pregnant for months before finally admitting it: Madonna, Britney Spears (both times), Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow. Those are just the ones that I can remember off the top of my head, I’m sure there are a lot more.

Star magazine printed a retraction to the Reese pregnancy rumors and boy, is it cruel. I don’t know if this is allowed, so feel free to delete my post if need be, but I just wanted everyone to see how low they would sink:

You have to scroll up a bit to see what they wrote. I didn’t send this to the editors because I didn’t think it was baby news.

That’s just so incredibly tacky of Star magazine. I’ve gotten to the point where I don’t even want to read magazines about celebrities anymore because I’m so sick of seeing the cruelty with which celebrity mothers and moms-to-be are treated. I’m sick of the articles where they compare who lost the weight the fatest, and who “packed on” the most weight (an expression that I don’t even think should be used at all). I’m sick of the press acting like a woman should be able to have a baby and look perfect during and afterwards. Reese obviously has other priorities, like playing with her children instead of leaving them with a nanny so she can work out for three hours a day.

Thanks for the link Deanna.

Oooh. That is a low blow. Unfortunately she can’t sue them for being rude!

I wouldn’t even be surprised if those pictures are photo-shopped?

I personally think Reece looks great. It’s so nice to see a celebrity that spends time with their children versus hitting the gym for hours on end.
I can’t believe how tacky The Star handled this whole situation.

Mom Said It

"It helps that other moms had said that once they had their babies, they forgot they were ever pregnant. So once my focus became the baby and not the pregnancy, it was a very easy decision."
