Britney Speaks: "I'm a Good Mom"

by auditioning contributor Sara

Britney_spears In an interview with Matt Lauer to be aired this Thursday on Today and Dateline, Britney Spears defends her marriage and her abilities as a mom. Refuting speculation from tabloids, Britney describes her marriage to Kevin Federline as "awesome," and says, "I know I’m a good mom."

Britney even addresses the controversy she caused by driving with her baby, Sean Preston, in her lap, an incident caught on camera by the paparazzi. "I did it with my dad. I’d sit on his lap and I’d drive. We’re country." Britney says the paparazzi’s constant attention on her and her family has left her an "emotional wreck," and she believes they have "crossed the line a bit" by taking pictures of her in private moments.

That comment Britney made about herself and her dad, see didn’t I tell ya she only raising Sean the same way she was raised in the 1980s! lol!

Of course for the most part she’s raising Sean in 2006 Los Angeles, not 1982 rural Louisianna (which driving w/a kid on your lap even then wouldn’t have been safe or legal either) so of course her actions are being noticed a 100x more.

I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt that she’s trying, but then again perhaps she can learn from some of her parents’ mistakes, or maybe not.

“I did it with my dad. I’d sit on his lap and I’d drive. We’re country.”

Being white trash isn’t an excuse for stupidity.

Oh wait, maybe it is.

“I did it with my dad. I’d sit on his lap and I’d drive. We’re country.”

Not long after the incident a press release said that she had him on her lap to protect her baby from “physically aggressive paparazzi” — the trouble was after she said that pictures and video showed that the photographers weren’t near her SUV as she sat there smiling and playing with him and her bodyguard walked over and got in and then they drove off with Sean on her lap and no seatbelt on her …

Now the excuse is that they’re “country”? So that means it was on purpose? Get your story straight, Britney!

I am sorry to say but the girl is a dumbass……yep I said it!

“I did it with my dad. I’d sit on his lap and I’d drive. We’re country.”

That’s the weakest excuse yet. If she’d own up to making a mistake, it’d be over and done with…for the most part.

Well, she may have been raised in the country like that, but California, the major cities, are hardly anything but country, and filled with drivers who probably don’t give a damn about where you were raised. A bad situation is a bad situation, no matter what she says to sugarcoat it. The stigma from that incident is going to stick with her for a long time.

It might be better if she just owns up to the mistake and apologizes. She might not get so much backlash.

I’m going to end it there.

Someone needs to take Sean Preston away, and when this new unfortunate kid is born, take it away too. None of her offspring have a chance.

Anyway, I never bought her “scary paparazzi” excuse so I’m not shocked she changed her excuse yet again. She’s just a total pathological liar – always has been, always will be. Heck, even the paparazzi said they had VIDEO PROOF that she drove off with the baby in her lap for no reason… looks like they were right.

Let’s all hope these kids are taken away and she disappear into the night… we’ll all be better off.

Seriously, how can you wish for anyone to have their children taken away?

She has made mistakes, stupid ones, but that doesn’t give people the right to wish away someones children. I think some people are getting off on the fact that she makes mistakes and are willing her to fail.

- vic on

Wishing somebody’s child be taken away is a little severe.

She’s a young new mother with a lot to learn. Lame excuse on the driving part. It must be difficult to parent infront of billions of people and cameras 24/7. I feel for her.

I think Britney just is what and who she is and fame and money isn’t going to change that. At least she is honest and not really hiding behind too much of a facade (at least she appears to be). So, while the is not the sharpest of girls I do believe that she is trying very hard and I can’t even begin to imagine the stress she is under from all sides.

And she is definitely right on being a paparazi target, but I don’t think this will help at all. I get the feeling that paparazi are like that bully in school and the more reaction you give them, the worse of a beating you will take. :P

she should have stopped before she said “we’re country”. I wasnt raised in the country, but I WAS raised in florida. my parents put me on their lap while driving ALL THE TIME! no big deal.

My dad used to let me drive in the parking lot when I was 8,9 and 10. The important factor in this is that I was 10 years old not 10 months old. I find anything like “we’re country” like the dumbest excuse. I am 24 years old the same age as Britney and I know if I had a child I would never do something as dangerous. Yes acidents happen, I fell on my back with my niece in my arms when she was 10 months old that’s an accident but making such a conscience choice like this is just unexcusable.

Overall I think she is a loving mother. She makes some really stupid mistakes but that doesn’t mean that she doesn’t love her son. I just wish instead of making excuses she would own up to it and educate herself on carseat safety.
The one thing that pissed me off the most about her driving with Sean on her lap was she was saying how the paparazzi were chasing her and referred to Princess Diana. Hello!? She was KILLED because she wasn’t wearing her SEATBELT. How is driving away with your son on your lap to get away from paparazzi safe? It takes one minute to strap your child in and then drive like a dingbat to get away. Also, it’s said she frequents the same Starbucks quite often so of course they’ll be waiting there. Whynot drive another couple minutes to a different one? Not like Starbucks are one in a million.

- Lorus on

I think the excuses make her look more selfish. It’s one of those things, quit while your ahead.

- joy on

I think using the excuse “we’re country” is an insult to all good “country” people who are good caring parents. She’s stupid and I worry about her children.

- Patty on

It can’t be any worse then what my dad used to do. He would turn the headlights on his truck off and drive me and my brother down curvy roads at night. There was a pretty good chance was drunk too….

- AnniKat on

I grew up in the country but my parents are very intelligent people who never even thought about putting me or my brothers or sister on their lap while driving. Being country with a laidback, down to earth personality is different from being ignorant and reckless. I’m a huge Britney fan but she is ignorant about raising kids. Hopefully for her kids sake she will get the hang of it.
