Bebe au Lait

06/09/2006 at 11:00 AM ET

Bebeaulait2If you’re modest about nursing in public, you might want to try a Bebe Au Lait nursing cover. Gwen Stefani has the kimono fabric Bebe Au Lait nursing cover as she will now be joining the "mommy’s club." Gwyneth Paltrow, Liv Tyler, and Julia Roberts have all been seen wearing a Bebe Au Lait nursing cover along with several other A-lister mommies!

From beautiful paisley fabrics to trendy mod dots these covers are a fashionable way to create a barrier between you and your baby and the outside world.  Visit www.bebeaulait.com so you too can look fashionable when breastfeeding in public places.

While we think nursing covers are a cool way to cover up when nursing in public, we don’t believe it’s necessary to cover up (nor is it required by law- you are allowed to breastfeed in public in every state).  I have been successfully and comfortably nursing in public for 6 out of 7 months of Anya’s life and I have never felt weird about doing so.  However, I know that some women are just not at ease with it and so nursing covers are a great way to make it possible for them to feed their babies in public.

I know that it isn’t illegal or necessary to cover up while nursing, but I always felt really uncomfortable “whipping it out”. However, my daughter would not tolerate blankets, cover-ups or any respect for my privacy whatsoever, so I pretty much had to get over it!

As an aside, I was in Panera Bread, and asked if there was a mother’s/nursing room. And the bimbo behind the counter said “Can’t you like, use the bathroom?”, her manager heard this and told me and her, that of course I was welcome to nurse anywhere I liked, and comped my mom’s and my lunch!

Mom Said It

"I had to make a decision that I could sleep with every night. I did feel responsible for the young girls who I probably confused and let down. I apologize for that. But I wasn't trying to glamorize teen pregnancy."
