Tom Cruise chooses fatherhood over publicity as he shops for baby Suri

While Katie Holmes has been stuck at home in Los Angeles taking care of her 1-week-old daughter, Suri, with fiance’ Tom Cruise,  Tom has been on a whirlwind European tour to promote his new film Mission: Impossible III. Katie, of course, supported the star’s decision to travel, reportedly telling him to "go have fun."

However, in a moment of parental obligation, Tom visited a Parisian store to purchase outfits for his baby daughter and skipped a M:I III press conference, organizers said. He then rejoined the publicity tour via helicopter at La Defense, a west-end Paris complex.

On Tuesday, Tom told London reporters that he had called Katie "about a billion times" to check on their baby.

There is no way I would tell my husband to travel to another country a week after our baby is born unless I wanted to get rid of him.

Pure speculation here, I read this in a magazine recently, but supposedly this happened a few weeks ago…Apparently Katie and a friend were in line at a coffee shop. Katie’s phone kept ringing. After several rings her friend inquired as to why she wasn’t answering it. Katie, through gritted teeth and rolling her eyes, made some off hand remark about how it was “Tom for the billionth time today”…Realizing that a person in line behind them heard her comment, Katie suddenly answered the phone and pretended to be all lovey dovey calling Tom sweetie & baby…This was in Hello magazine a few weeks back. I personally believe it. Of course I could be wrong, but I get the impression that Tom is very protective, maybe even some what controlling over Katie. I bet she is so relieved to have some Tim alone with Suri.

And as for Tom’s quote that he has called Katie “about a billion times”, I don’t doubt it for one minute!

Wouldn’t the father of a newborn (and first biological child) want to stay with the baby for a bit? I think he should give up the publicity tour for daddy-daughter bonding time.

I think that’s all it is is pure publicity. Using baby Suri’ as a means to gain publicity for his movie. I’m sorry but that’s played out Tom. Be more of a man and go home to your kid and soon to be wife. You waited all this time to have her why are you worrying about so much promotion!

also, tom took his children with him to Europe. both connor and isabella went with him. so I DO think Katie told him to go. he was probably smothering her with attention, and she just wanted some alone time with her daughter. not that there is anything wrong with extreme attention, it can just get annoying.

It is a little different because he isn’t coming home at night after work, but many fathers do go back to wrok right away, though it does vary.

My parents saved for a few years after marriage because they both wanted to be home for the first 6 months when they had their first child (my older sister). Though when they had me two years later they couldn’t do this because my fathers job was very demanding at that stage – he went back to work the next day and the same with my little sister. But when my mum then had my brother 5 years later my dad has 18 months off and my mum went back to wor, which was fantastic because we hadn’t spent that much time with my dad when we were growing up.

Even though i find the situation with Tom and Katie kinda freaky…good on him for being a great dad-taking his kids to Europe, attending their sports games…

There is nothing that man won’t do for publicity!! Taking his kids to Paris was just another ploy to convince the movie going public that he is a family man, blah blah blah and therefore they should go and see his latest movie!!

Tom Cruise is just batshit crazee, plain and simple.

Patty, I’ve been looking through French media to see if anyone got him shopping because essentially the only two stores he would have gone to for clothes are Bonpoint or Jacadi because they are the most high-end. In fact I think it’s more likely he went to Bonpoint than to Jacadi because Bonpoint has a number of unusual and very plush items of clothing. Otherwise he would have gone to Le Nain Bleu for toys like Angelina did. But I can’t find any references yet. Even if he went by helicopter (lol) from La Defense to one of those stores the papparazzi would have been on to him somewhere.

He’s shopping for publicity. If he was a real hands on dad, he’d be home with his hands on some diapers and his kid, for goodness sake. He’s no more hands on than Kevin Federline.

He is georgous my God! and lovely, he speak to me and ask me! I gave him my congratulations and kissed him; I was the only one I think!
I think he loved it too! he smile at me.
I don’t know how he can stand up after Rome, London and now Paris!
there was 10,000 people at LA Défense! it is a big industriel and commercial complex with a lot of bussiness If you see what I mean.

Tom is a hands on dad. He takes his kids wherever he goes even when he’s on location they are there with him. Calling the man a dead beat father or bad one because of a few days of leaving his newborn is unfair. I’m sure he’s not the only father in hollywood that has had to do that in the past. From all we’ve seen, he’s always been a great dad to his kids over the yrs, attending all their games and always being with them.

So what that he left for a few days to go to work. Unfortunately this is his job and it takes him out the country. And Tom always takes his kids with him everywhere, this has nothing to do with publicity. But him wanting to be with his children, sheesh.
