Where will the TomKitten sleep?

04/21/2006 at 08:00 AM ET

Rufflesnbowsblue Suri Cruise will have her choice of three luxury bassinets that mom Katie Holmes ordered from high-end baby bedding line Lulla Smith along with 30 sets of Sea Island cotton sheets. Designer Carol Smith said, "That baby is not going to use the same sheet twice!"

Lulla Smith carries 19 bassinets.  The Ruffles’nBows one pictured above is my favorite.  There’s one called Jolie… might be a good option for Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt should they have a girl!

InstructionsWe used our bassinet for a whole 3 months before Anya outgrew it.  Still it was great because it allowed us to have her in our room which made this middle of the night feedings easier.  Next time around though, I’d like to get a co-sleeper which is similar to a bassinet but allows you to have the baby sidled up to your bed.  Makes feedings easier.  I just wish they made prettier, more luxurious ones!

Babies R Us and Amazon sell the Arm’s Reach Co-Sleeper.

Did you use a bassinet?

Yep, I used a bassinet, and it nearly broke my heart when my daughter outgrew it, and I had to move her to her crib LOL. I loved it though. I could have her literally sleeping right next to me while I worked (I work at home), which was really nice!

We had a bassinet too, and although my daughter was/ is a big girl, she used it for six months…yippee:-)The co-sleeper looks like a good plan for #2 though. On a positive note, transfer to a crib was easy!

i loved the bassinet, we used it for 3-4 mos. — and ITA about more luxurious co-sleepers!

We used a pack ‘n play, similar to the cosleeper pictured. Lucas slept in it for six weeks, then I returned to work and Lucas slept in his crib.

Danielle, have you seen the wooden co-sleepers? They are much nicer looking and convert to a bench after you are finished. They cost a bit more, but I think it’s worth it. Let me know if you want me to hunt down the website. We did use a bassinet, and it was handy, but I’ll also go for a co-sleeper next time! The crib our daughter has now converts into a toddler bed and, later, a double bed. I like it because it’s really solid — no moving sides. It was a nice transition from the bassinet.

Nope.

we were given a bassinet and a co-sleeper (why? i don’t really know) – anyway I LOVED the co-sleeper and gave the bassinet to my mom to keep at her house for when baby and I were over there visiting. The co-sleeper is great, not having to walk across the room during the night half asleep was defeinitely great!!

My sister used a bassinet for all three of her girls. She loved it!

I did use a bassinet for my daughter. I had her right next to my bed so I could easily reach over and touch and see her. I loved it. Now she is in her crib, and I miss her LOL.

We had a cradle for our daughter (a family heirloom) but it was really only useful for the first couple of months. Mostly, though, we found it easiest to just have her sleep in bed with us – even though we had decided before she was born that we wouldn’t go that route. It was most convenient, though, and we had no trouble transitioning her to her own room when she was around 4 months old. We started off by putting her bed in our room, then putting her in her own room for naps, then finally for nighttime as well. If it’s a particularly rough night she sometimes comes in bed with us still, but most of the time she’s in her own bed.

So Danielle, are you planning for a “next time around” anytime soon? ;) Hehe…

have to pipe in here — i used a bassinet the first time around. not SO great, because, to check on baby, i had to lift myself up to peek into the bassinet. used the co-sleeper the second time around and i can’t rave about it enough. first, it was great as i recovered from the c-section, because the baby was right next to me. it was so easy to just reach over and touch him, check on him, make sure he was breathing (yeah, you do that the second time, too.) also, my first likes to sleep with us quite frequently, so we had the three year old between us, with the new baby safely ensconced in his co-sleeper. it’s perfect, really. i used the mini one actually, just right for our tiny bedroom. it was a light tan with little white polka dots. luxurious enough for me, and most importantly, practical. we used it officially until baby was five months old, as needed until 6 months old, but by then he was too mobile for it to be safe. i HIGHLY recommend it for everyone.

The best purchase I ever made?

A baby hammock for inside his cot. Not an Amby one, but an actual hammock that ties diagonally in the cot. He is 5 months and still loves it, has slept 12 hours a night for ages, and DOESNT sleep like a baby ;)

I wasnt BFing at night though so I dont know how hard that would be. But its certainly a great, cheap, and effective alternative to bassinettes.

Babies slept with me. Crib was a complete waste of money….

Mom Said It

"I had to make a decision that I could sleep with every night. I did feel responsible for the young girls who I probably confused and let down. I apologize for that. But I wasn't trying to glamorize teen pregnancy."
