Britney Spears may sue over high chair accident

HighchairAccording to MSNBC gossip columnist Jeannette Wall, Britney Spears is considering suing the manufacturer of the high chair that son Sean Preston supposedly took a tumble from.  Brit’s story about Sean’s head injury is that as her nanny was lifting him from it when "something snapped."

According to a family insider that In Touch Weekly quotes, "The chair’s back broke. She’s going to see if there was a fault in the chair."

I am highly skeptical of the story because as many readers have noted in the comments of the post, if it was the high chair, why not release the brand of the high chair? Also, I know that from lifting Anya from her high chair, even if the back or any piece broke, there is no way I could drop her on her head. I have a feeling that Sean was either not belted in and fell or something else happened, completely unrelated to the high chair.

Note: The high chair pictured is used as just an illustration.  However, if this is the one she has, I would not be surprised if Sean fell from it.  A high chair like this is 5 minutes away from a recall!  I know our parents used high chairs like these with us but that was back in the day when car seats looked like tubs with a seat belt (and even then they only threw them in the backseat!).

I don’t know about anyone else, but I never bought the “broken high-chair” excuse. I think she’s pretty much proven she’s very careless and has horrible judgement, even with her child.

Plus, I just can’t picture a nanny liftng a kid out of a high-chair and then just letting go when the back snaps. LOL

I’m not buying the high chair incident either. I think Britney is just careless and isn’t thinking clearly. Sure she wanted a baby, and I am sure she loves him — but that doesn’t mean she is a responsible parent. She couldn’t even pick a decent daddy.

Agreed…the broken-highchair thing sounds like a crock!

- gargoylegurl on

Blah! This whole thing screams publicity stunt and another way for her to try and get money out of someone.

Give it up, Brit-Brit and K-Fed.

- FC on

FC you raise a good point. Brit’s last album was a flop, she’s done nothing with her career lately, no touring, movies, etc. Maddona is one of her best friends and has no doubt taught her the art of keeping herself in the headlines without actually “doing” anything! Gotta give her credit, it’s sure working! She just needs to have a few more “incidents” before next years release of her new album! lol

Once again, bring out the Brit bashing. I doubt the story is true, but who knows and who really cares??? If she was touring right now and working alot all of you would be saying she should be at home with her baby. If she is home with her baby everyone says she is doing nothing with her career and is “looking for headlines”. As for her trying to get money out of someone, why woudl she need it?? The woman is rich beyond belief and could not work for 5 years and still be financially secure. So, not taking up for any of her “judgment” issues, but give it a rest with the Britney bashing. She is just another human being. If one of us had a highchair “accident” and it was legitimate, wouldn’t we be mad enough to sue?? I know I would. So, if it is true and if the highchair was really defective, she has every right to sue. Just like any regular person.

I know my thoughts fall on deaf ears about Britney. I just HATE to see her bashed constantly no matter what she does. She could donate millions to some worthy cause or have a trillion selling album or win an Oscar(not that she ever would), and everyone would STILL find something wrong and bash her.

Tink, do you have children? Or even ever used a highchair? If you had, you’d know that the back of a high chair does not just “snap” and send the baby tumbling onto his head. I’ve never seen a highchair, even a crappy one, that had a back flimsy enough to snap. And I’m sure Britney has one of the expensive ones, which nowadays have the seat all in one piece. How the back on one of those would “snap” is beyond me. So THAT is why people are bashing her – because her story is OBVIOUSLY fabricated.

- pg on

Yes, I have 2 children and what does that have to do with my opinion of Britney bashing??? We know NOTHING about what products she has or doesn’t have. Personally, I think the actual story from the magazine is fabricated(about her suing) just like alot of other tabloids stories. I mean, TomKat did not have an alien baby did they??

Anyway, brand new baby products CAN and DO malfunction all the time. I am not saying she is the perfect mother, by any means, it just seems no matter what this woman does she gets bashed. THAT was what my post was about. NOT specifically the whole high chair incident!

For what its whorth, my kids are teenagers so I do know a bit about parenting, baby products from back then AND recent(I do have friends with babies), and I am not just spewing nonsense here.

- tink1217 on

I agree with you tink! This story is classified as gossip but everyone assumes that it is real. if she is suing because of a legitimate reason, why not? Just because something is expensive does not mean it will never malfunction! And if she were out touring and “doing something” with her career she would also be labeled a bad mother for abandoning her baby!
I got stitches when I was a toddler and my father dropped my brother. Does that make my parents bad parents who are careless and lack judgement?? No, it makes them normal.

- Maria on

Her kid has been in the ER more times in his first year than I have in my whole life. To me, THAT makes her a neglectful parent and I will bash her as much as I please. I have no sympathy for someone who puts her own selfishness ahead of her child’s safety. And I find it laughable that people are actually sticking up for this sorry excuse for a “mother.”

I never said expensive/new baby products never malfunction. Sure they do. But her story about the back “snapping” just screams pure and utter BS to me. Picture it in your head. In order for him to fall completely out, the back would pretty much have to just fall right off. And I’m gonna go with a NO on that one.

- pg on

My son was in the ER about 12 times his first 2 years. Chronic ear infections, high fevers, and what turned out to be a seizure disorder. Does that make me a neglectful parent?? AND, maybe I haven’t heard all of the stories, but I only know of this one incident that Sean was in the ER. Also, neglectful would have been for her NOT to take him to see a doctor. I never said I was taking up for her, just wondering why nobody EVER says anything nice about her. I even said she has made some poor choices. Are you a perfect parent, PG?? Nobody is. I am not, and nobody I know is. And, accidents DO happen. To celebs and to regular people too. We just always hear about the celeb mistakes.

I guess I was brought up to say something only if I can say something nice. You know…the Golden Rule. Gossip aside, this is supposed to be a site that celebrates celebrities and their babies. Not bashes them. Or is that not the case anymore??

- tink1217 on

Maria, thanks, and ITA. There are really bad parents out there, but one or two accidents in a child’s life does not a bad parent make. I totally agree the driving incident was bad! She made a bad mistake. But, the thing I don’t understand is no matter what she does, good or bad, she will always be bashed by everyone here.
