Jennifer Garner loses baby weight slowly and sensibly

03/25/2006 at 04:00 PM ET

New mother Jennifer Garner, who gave birth to daughter Violet Anne on December 1st last year, has turned her back on the usual extreme diets followed by other celebrity moms. Instead, the star has adopted healthy eating and a light exercise regime. The wife of Ben Affleck, has hired fitness guru Valerie Waters, who says, "Jen is on target to getting back her pre-baby figure through moderate exercising and sensible eating…she’s not jumping on that celeb mom bandwagon of getting super-skinny, super-quickly." Jen is "more concerned about keeping healthy and spending time with Violet than anything else."

Jennifer had a few months off after Violet’s birth and is now back at work as Sydney Bristow on ABC’s Alias, which wraps up it’s current season for the final time in May. We still haven’t seen a good picture of the little girl, who is sure to be beautiful.

i saw this on there site and thought tis just shows how wonderful she is. it also proves why one reason that she is such a role model to everyone. she is not letting the idea of being stick skinny take over to her. i think this is great that she is taking her time.

I’m so glad she’s chosen to live such a normal life. It will be so good for her daughter to grow up as normal as possible.

You know, I think it’s more than a bit judgemental to assume that women who lose baby weight quickly are not healthy or spending time with their babies. Good for Jennifer that she is taking her time, but some women lose it very quickly anyway, especially if they are breastfeeding. I am tall and naturally thin, gained 25 lbs with my baby and was back in my pre-preggo jeans in 3 weeks. What did I eat? A whole lot of nourishing foods for my breastfeeding baby. How much time did I spend with my baby? 24 hours a day. Not all, and probably not even the majority, of women who lose baby weight quickly are dieting or running off to the gym for hours a day. How fast you lose baby weight has nothing at all to do with being a wonderful mother or a role model.

^^i am not saying that if you lose it quickly for the hollywood moms your not a wonderful role model i am just saying i think it is shows that since she is not likeing rushing to get it off right away like it means you dont have to be stick skinny. i didnt mean anything bad by what i said

I think the gist of the story was that IN GENERAL, a disproportionate number of celeb moms are over-the-top in shrinking to pre-preggo bodies a.s.a.p. via hiring trainers/nannies/chefs without really being forthcoming about how they achieved their weight loss.

In general, the average postpartum new mom (whether breastfeeding or not), is unable to lose weight as quickly and does not have access to a H’wood team of experts.

I gained 25 lbs being preggo, lost 20 with delivery and the first 2 weeks, and nearly a year later cannot fit into any of my form fitting pants from pre-baby.

How come nobody talks about how your hips expanding permanently?! How do the celebs deal with that?

^i know exactly what you mean. i gained 28 lbs during my pregnancy and have lost all of it, although i can’t even remember how long it took. as soon as i delivered my tummy was gone. it was a little saggy, but gone. my hips, however, must be permanently spread out because i was never able to fit into my pre-pregnancy pants.
