Britney admits "I made a mistake"

6821043 Nf67gl Britney Spears admitted she was wrong about driving with 4 month old Sean Preston on her lap on Monday. Access Hollywood caught up with her last night at a post-Grammy party and asked Britney about the incident.

She said, "It is what it is, it’s the press. I mean, there is nothing new with them, with me…It’s kind of like I made a mistake and so it is what is, I guess…Being put in the situation that I was in, it was kind of bad with the paparazzi," she explained. "Last week, my mom and me went out and they were on us really bad, so it’s just, you do instinctively what you need to do."

You can watch the video of Britney speaking to the reporter at Access Hollywood.

A mistake is writing the wrong date on your check.

A f’up is driving with your kid in your lap in a car (any car) with airbags. And, exacerbate the problem by LYING about the circumstances.

Brit, honey? You f’ed up. Badly.

Do it on your dime but leave your kid out of it.

- Principesa on

Oh yea.

And, call yourself LUCKY.

Just think. If someting happened to that child during your “mistake” instead of going out tonight, you may be spending time in a jail cell and making arrangements for your child’s funeral.

I have seen it before and I am certain that parent would do anything – ANYTHING to take that moment back.

- Principesa on

Yes, the papparazzi were so overbearing and vicious that you forgot all lack of sense. It wouldn’t have taken much to just climb into the back and buckle him in. I know there’s room to do that in a Lincoln Navigator. Even the bodyguard could’ve done something other than what she ended up doing.

Bad choice on her part, and I’m not buying her excuse/apology.

All she can say is “It is what it is” ?? She sure doesn’t seem sorry about it at all. I just have to wonder how much of it was just to say to everyone “hey everybody look at me. I can do anything I want and get away with it.” Not like she didn’t know everyone was taking pictures and that the rest of the world would be seeing those pictures. Yeah, it was definitely a publicity stunt, and a pretty stupid one! I cannot even imagine risking my baby’s life like that! What an idiot!!!

- DJ on

I’m not a parent, but I would never, EVER, EVER drive with a child (or anyone, for that matter) unrestrained, and especially not in my lap while I’m driving! It irks me when I see idiots like this who drive with their toddlers or babies in their laps because “they [the kid] wouldn’t stop screaming until I let them drive” or “we were in a hurry, I didn’t have time to strap them in” My God! If you don’t have time to buckle your child in, maybe you shouldn’t have a child to be responsible for!

Okay, stepping off my soap box now…and back to Britney. I definitely think it is a publicity stunt…I mean, she *is* smiling in the pics..

Did anyone else think that what she said made no sense? It tooke me awhile to decipher it.

- Shalynne on

Nope, you’re right on, Shalynne, what she said made no sense, and that is simply because the whole situation doesn’t make sense. She is trying to blame someone who in this instance seems to be totally blameLESS, and she is doing everything she can to avoid blaming herself and actually taking responsibility for her actions.

She doesn’t even directly talk about the situation. She immediately starts talking about how it was when she was with her mom. Who cares how it was with her mom. That has absolutely NOTHING to do with why she had Preston on her lap while she was driving, especially considering the fact that her bodyguard was sitting right next to her. It wasn’t like she was in the car by herself with the baby…not that that would have made a bit of difference either.

There is absolutely no excuse for what she did, and she knows it. That is why she is saying a bunch of words that don’t even make sense.

- DJ on

nope….the first thing that crossed my mind reading that quote was that she needs more education for one she’s using correct Grammer and two her story isn’t clear.

Well all I can say is that she can make whatever excuse she wants. The proof is in the picture. She looked like she was smiling and nothing was wrong. I swear you need to take a driver’s test to learn how to drive yet any moron can have a kid. Maybe they should start offering classes for first time parents and teach them the skills like what to NOT do with your baby!

Joy- Did you mean incorrect grammar? LOL!

lol yes! go figure maybe I need lessons myself!

Ok, here’s the way I see it. This is a girl who is known for three things, her poor choices, her hunger for publicity, and her lies. Let’s not forget, this is the same girl who made out with Madonna, married Kevin, exploited her baby (the $2 mil first photos!)… the list goes on and on! This seems to be just another poor choice to put on the list. The /only/ reason she’s apologizing for this one is because she realized that she put another human life on the line. The way I see it, she probably didn’t quite realize what she was getting herself into when she got pregnant. It was just another a way to extend her 15 minutes of fame… the same way that horrible show intended too… Chaotic… Chaos.. something like that. She doesn’t seem to have wrapped her head around the idea that a kid is her responsibilty for life (or at least until he turns 18).

And as for her lies to cover it up, she’s told very weak lies in the past too.. her virginity, her pregnancy, etc. They never hold up, and you’d think she’d learn by now.

But the fact of the matter is, this is just a girl who clearly hasn’t had the best role models in her life, who doesn’t understand what it means to be a parent, and is desperate to cling on to her celebrity status by doing the most ridiculous things (certainly she wouldn’t last very long in the public eye if she didn’t… I mean, when’s the last time she recorded a song or anything?)

Hollywood needs to get tired of her as fast as I have, and let her sink into the Land of “Nobodies”. Maybe then she can take a good, long look at the life she’s created for herself and work on making it better.

Just my opinion.

some people should just grow up before having kids instead of growing up with them.

Okay, Okay, People! Britney knows she screwed up and she is sure regretting it. It was really stupid and irresponsible of her. But I think enough is enough. Something bad could of easily of happened but it didn’t. Hopefully she will learn by her mistake. Let’s not stone her for it.

- Scarlett on

Also, Who said Preston was a planned thing? You never know. As far as her lying about her virginity and pregnancy..that is no ones business. ESPECIALLY her virginity. Why should she be obligated to tell the world about things like that? Out of ALL of the celebrities Britney is definately not the main one I would bash. There are so many worse than her and alot of the ones who people think are so wonderful are snot nosed _____. Even when Britney was huge I always thought she seemed real. Just like a normal person. The fame didn’t seem to go to her head. I’ve met her once and she is the sweetest girl. Jessica Simpson on the other hand..fame has definately gotten to her to say the least.

- Scarlett on

You know what really erks me? During that interview, yeah she said it was a mistake but the whole time she acted like it was no big deal. She was just so relaxed. I could definitly tell she didn’t think it was a big deal and she wasnt sorry. She just said that to try to make herself look better.

- starlight_perfume on

I only say her virginity because she made /such/ a big deal about the fact that she was going to stay ‘pure’ until marriage, and then she publically admitted that she had slept with Justin Timberlake, thus shattering the image that a lot of young girls (such as my sister, for instance) had of the importance of values/morals.

She made it everyone’s buisness, the way she kept going on about it.

Grr, this girl irks me.

(Err, Britney, not you Scarlett o_o)

- Zoey on

Oh, I figure I should mention; my mom was eventually able to set my sister straight, I’d just imagine that other girls aren’t so lucky.

- Zoey on

Yeah, she seems real sorry about what she did. She got caught red handed and won’t even admit to it. Britney, once again….you are a DISGRACE!!!!! Shame on you for putting your baby in danger! Admit what you did was wrong, stupid, dangerous and irresponsible!!!! Grow up Britney….your baby depends on YOU!
